so i installed my new sub and amp yesterday and for some reason i have to turn my gain almost all the way up to get the sub moving, now i am running all of this off my stock deck with a LOC, am i just getting that weak of a signal from the LOC (its cranked up)? or you think that my electrical system needs an upgrade??

heres what im workin with

electrical system wouldn't cause that huge of a difference between 14 volts and 11 volts. It's using a loc instead of a HU with RCA preouts. Maybe that loc sucks and you need to try a different brand. You could test this with a digital media player hooked up directly to the amp RCAs.

ok i just hooked up a portable cd player (turned volume up and down on portable) to the amp and still made no difference, i prolly just a got a crappy overrated amp, i am getting some severe dimming however--- so WTF is up

i thought with that power rating on the amp the gain would be about half way if not just a tad more but im about 3/4 of the way turned up maybe a lil more, i got my bass boost completely down and deck bass setting at 0, i just dont wanna be clipping my amp at that gain level and fry my new sub, so is it safe as long as i dont here distortion or clipping at that gain level

naw everything is wired up correctly i checked eveything many many times, taking the sub out of box making sure its wired right, making sure all connection pionts are tight and all and that crap, i dunno im stumped

I'm guessing that you are running the subs in parallel to give the amp a 2 ohm load... try connecting one sub and see what the amp will do with a 4 ohm load. Check the subs with an ohm meter to make sure they are 4 ohm. One sub could be dead short. I would hope that you are using a large guage battery cable and ground... double check your connections, a GOOD ground is very important.

Past all this, I would send them amp back for repair.

Keep in mind that if the amp is rated for 1000RMS and the subs are rated for 500RMS that doesn't mean the gain should be set to half on the amp. As long as you don't hear your sub distorting then you aren't sending any signal to your subs that would possibly damage them.

hmmm well i am only running 8g. power wire and ground (too lazy to swap it out) ..... i mean it does pound but it just seems like i shouldnt have to turn the gain up to about 90-95%

that amp prolly draws 60-90 amps.... a portion on music....

With 8 AWG you're gonna have a lot of voltage drop over a standard car length run.... dont be lazy.... swap outthe wiring
