basic upgrading

i am completely new to this and have a lot of questions about upgrading speakers... i have a 98 nissan altima... i woudl liek to upgrade my speakers but i dont know where to start... i dont really want a sub because i need all the space in my trunk i can get for golf clubs... but i want speakers with a noticably more bass, will i need to buy an amp for this or will a new head unit work? hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction..

a nice pair of speakers and an small amp will solve the problem. What is your budget, and the sizes of your speakers?

i think there are four 6 1/2 and maybe two really small ones in the front door too.. umm i dont really want to spend more than 200 or 250 idk... will i need to buy a new radio also? what does deading the door mean?

they will sound better with an aftermarket head unit so long as it has a high pass filter and some kind of EQ. they will sound the best from a small amplifier something in the 2x50w to 2x75w range

Get a decent set of speakers but if you want bass out of them you will need to get baffles (a small foam enclosure that goes around the rear of the speaker), and make sure the speaker is tightly sealed in its mount. Also, add tons of sound deadening (dynamat, raammat, etc.) Because that is what will make the speakers perform better.

Regular speakers are not really designed to output bass unless in the right enclosure/setup
