yep, some of the most expensive optics out there. the majority of the cost on the unmanned aircraft we learn about is in the optics.
have you heard of the new gray eagle camera system theyre working on consisting of huge amounts of cell phone cameras into one optic lens being able to survey a 50km area in real time.
Have not heard of that, sounds pretty intense. Right now FLIR is working hard on their ground surveillance radar.

for civilian airports? if so, im glad to hear it. i was surprised to hear that the majority of airports dont have it, it's going to be a vital system for improving efficiency in our NAS. i wonder if it has to do with nextGen at all

Lol los33...... **** Halliburton... I work well servicing and in the last 4 years I've made half a mil... Gov steals 40% tho... Gotta love the tax hikes on overtime hours...

Do you work for haliburton?

Welders here make 20+. That should be the going rate. Guess it all depends what state too.
Depends on the line of work you do. All he is doing is welding premade parts together.

Oilfield welders fix cracks and weld pipes together and etc.. The pay is more due to the field.

We just did a demo for CBP in Tucson for boarder protection with our radar (30km range) and have gotten back very good results. I'm actually flying out there today to check on the system and possibly collect some data.

We have radars and detection systems setup in airports, but it's dopler verses FMCW at this time.

I became a licensed architect last year. I Work at a Small architecture firm.
I almost did that. When researching I found there wasn't a high demand and changed majors to Mechanical Engineering. How has the field worked for you? I won't get into pay specifics, but I do well for myself.

I've always loved building and designing architecture. From a very young age even, story be told that I designed a replica of the sears tower out of legos when I was 4. But I was also very Mechanically inclined from a young age, from building car engines with my dad to making functions robots out of lego thingys (It was supposed to be some pneumatic type toy, I make a walking function robot that picked up things, I think it was supposed to be a walking dog? I vaguely remember building it, I was like 6 or 7).

Job: Mechanical Engineer/Electrical Engineer/Automotive Engineer

Description: I work with HO Alternators. We don't do too much in terms of "Audio" because we are generally more expensive than your standard HO Alternator. We do a lot of government work and have many government contracts. We do sell some audio Alts, but like I said, they are usually a little higher priced than some of the other ones. I design custom housings, pulleys, brackets to fit 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Alts, whatever the client is looking for in power. Also design custom underhood parts to fit more batteries or other components in limited space. Most recent project was fitting 4 yellow top optimas under the hood of a suburban.

Pay: Base pay a garbage. less than 35K. But after "incentives" which is basically commission, I'm much closer to 6 figures than my base pay(got my fingers crossed to break the 6 figure barrier this year). I get paid days off, not much, no 401k match or anything like that. Top notch health, dental, and vision coverage though.

I have 2 cars that I pay on. Both 2014s, a Kia Optima and a Kia Soal. Hopefully the Optima is paid off next year so I can get a Suburban too. I'm only 23 next month and have a lot of life to live. I got a offer to help with a audio garage which I'll probably take up to pursue my passion and learn about the business. I'll probably open my own garage in no time if money seems plausible. Business has started to become a passion and I want to test my smarts in the field and hope it doesn't ruin me.

Ex halliburton? Or did halli buy your employer?
No never worked for Halliburton just a funny bumper sticker I see from time to time and their frac crews are slow as dirt....

They used to work for a oil company I was contracted through but they lost the contract for taking to long to complete jobs

Halliburton is huge, but pay is bad and like you say are slow due to the untrained workers.

Most lie on the applications and get to stay due to halliburton having a policy of not firing someone due to lack of knowledge after being approved.

So far so good. Theirs is nothing better than to wake up to do something you love. I get great satisfaction putting my ideas on paper and then seeing it get built.

I hear ya buddy. I would have loved to get into architecture. But I'm so incredibly pleased with what I do. And I got into the automotive design field which is flippin awesome.

Mechanical design engineer

design robotic weld cells for, mostly, automotive companies

salaried at 45k

work 50+ hours a week / no ot compensation

hour drive each way

i hate my life

but it wouldnt be so bad if the company was managed correctly and my drive wasnt so long

I worked at a place like that, We did a lot of work for CAT and Deere. Mostly in machine design, setting up the machines that hold all the pieces in place so the welder or machine can weld it together. I did have a role in designing the machines that weld together the muffler for the the 2013 Corvettes and some Fiat Van. Pay sucked, and I worked 60+ hours a week but time and a half for overtime. My best advise for you is to keep your options open, keep your resume posted and wait patiently for your dream job. I currently am in my "dream job" for the moment, and it is in automotive design. I work 8 hours a day with a paid lunch. I don't get much vacation time, but I do get 2 weeks off for Christmas/New Years, and no 401k or pension, but I make way more than I should so that evens out, and my life insurance is on them. The only downfall is I may have to spend a few weeks in over seas every here and again, and not at some cool European place like Paris, but I do get compensated handsomely when I have to.

Oh yeah, I live less than 5 minutes away too. I leave at 8:05 to get here at 8:10ish and listen to music in the parking lot till 8:28 and start work at 8:30. I'm usually out the door at 4:25 and home by 4:30.

Also have an offer to do part time audio installs that I think I might take up. I wanna convince the guy to carry some Sundown, FL, or DD or all because we have no retailers locally besides DD. Maybe get them to keep an "intermediate" brand like Alpine for folks with a budget, maybe some Kicker for the even cheaper end. They are a car dealer and they want to expand. They have a 2 car garage and what not. They aren't set up yet... I also dabble in making beats and songs. I did a jingle for the guys dealership that will be airing around November, probably gonna have to make another for the audio install shop.
