Post your job/career

Currently in the process of starting a job search as I'm entering my senior year of college. I'll graduate with a Computer Science (Major) and Studio Art degree (Minor). Any of you guys involved in the tech careers please shoot me a PM as I need advice.

I figured out after a couple of years that computer engineering probably would have been more my thing, but I was already too committed to leave. I like it a lot, just not huge into programming. I love IT/Hardware stuff which is what I want to do i think. I also have a strong interest in networking/security.

Programming is needed to do networking and security.

I specialize in networking and security. Previously working self contract cnc, i worked at theplanet now softlayer as a on call technician then moved on to system administrator at hostgator..

I thought working for a datacenter would earn me better experience, but fixing network routers and swapping hard drives and doing remote os installs and os recoveries got tiring especially due to the hectic work.

At hostgator i helped managed the 250+ servers they had with 4 others and help out the india/brazil partners.

I did mainly the security and managing hack attempts working along side fbi to locate intrusions when they had to be called in.

That brings many jobs to the table.

I do love screwing around in Unix environments and bash scripting. I've screwed around with C making a Unix terminal. I mainly just hate Java. Everything else I'm fine with. I really want to do something with network hardware install ane maintenance. I have some and keep getting more AD experience with my work study on campus in the IT department. I'm thinking of trying to learn some Hadoop this year.

You'll likely have a PM coming tomorrow when I wake up.

Field Engineer III

Civilian contractor for DoD maintaining/installing/programming CCTV and IDS systems. (The company I work for has our own proprietary CCTV system deployed all over the USAF and some Army bases).

55k a year (15k raise this past January), not bad as I have no college minus the courses the USAF taught me with college credit hours during my enlistment.
