Ported vs sealed.

I currently run with a sealed box since I listen to more metal than anything and prefer tight bass but I see most people using ported over sealed. My understanding is to use ported for louder, boomier base and sealed for tighter, less boomy bass. What are y'alls opinions? Would I enjoy a ported box more than a sealed? I prefer quality over loudness any day, but could a ported give me the best of both worlds?

Bro no sealed box ever gave me musical enjoyment as much as my 4 18s in a ported did. I'm a metal head and sealed honestly never cut it. The box design is key.

yeah u will have to learn alot about ports, bigger the longer it has to be and all that.. u find a sub or subs u want we can tell u what size box and all.. just so u know ported boxes are at least twice size of sealed..

I've run both, sealed with a little more watts has been way better in my opinion, just suits my taste better. I like more accurate bass, more musical. I listen to a lot of classic, folk, punk, alternative, and grunge, and some country thrown in for good measure.

You've never had a good ported box.

I'm running a sa12 in about 2 cf tuned to 42 iirc

It's been a while since it was built

Plays metal country dubstep fenominally

Drops off quick for the low bass (below 35hz)

Not in my car, but in my home set up ported is what I'm running. I'd still rather have sealed, I like the right accurate response better. I like sealed with a passive radiator the best, but don't have the resources or space to do custom fan where I'm at now

you dont get that design is key. You can design a ported to be just as accurate as sealed. 1/4 wave Transmission line enclosures are even more accurate with a wider bandwidth than sealed can ever hope of getting close to.

A more important thing is the driver's TS parameters. Some drivers are solely engineered only to be ran sealed. there's drivers that are soley meant to be ran ported as well. As in you stick it in a sealed, it'll give the worse garbage results you can ever imagine, vice versa with a sub designed only for sealed and you put it in a ported. Box has to be built around the subwoofer's parameters along with the acoustical environment its in.

Not as simple as ported or sealed. Need to factor in EBP.

Uh just to let you know passive radiator is ported, not sealed. It may look like a sealed box but it is essentially a port with an increase in output near tuning frequency, which is why it's a ported alignment. All my setups are ported but the Tline that CSCstang made me is by far my favorite response curve when it comes to musicality.

How much do you charge for such a box?
