plasma tv help

1080p- in the end is more cost than it's worth, for most anyways...
HD-DVD player- at least 300$

entirely new DVD collection- ...............

TV's added cost - ~ couple of hundred dollars

LCDs- truer colors than plasmas, lighter, no burn in, more models in 1080p, less "fragile", easier to mount due to lightness, no glare

Plasmas- heavy, glass= glare, less accurate colors...

DLP- faster response times??? better for games??? (correct me if I'm wrong,) cheaper, take up more space.

Is this for your car? Or in home use???

Anyways, I say go for a nice (Toshiba, Samsung, LG(eh)) LCD TV in 1080i/ 720p....

This is for my house. Want it to look nice from far away...ie standing in the kitchen and having the tv in the living room about 15 ft away. Leaning towards lcd. Plasma is tempting though.

Plasma guy here too, 42"

I love the thing, I hate LCDs and that hazy look the screen has if your off angle a bit you can see the plastic cover, Also LCDs blacks are like gray....

And if you plasma is ghosting images badly, likely you **** at setting up the color brightness and contrast. From the factory, TVs are set to bright as they pretty much can. Most people on sites refer to it as torch mode ( from being set up so bright ) and soon as that gets left on a show with a Ticker or station symbol or a video game with stationary stats itll leave a ghost after an hour or so of play.

You can just turn the TV to another channel and after a bit it goes away.

Some plasmas also have a "panel saver" Where it shakes the screen in the very slightest or a little more depending on settings and the manufactuer.

your sll wrong if you want help m8 try http://www.thebracketman.com

thats what they do put up lcds and plasmas and the best picture is still a digital crt it has not been matched yet and wont be in the near futre follwed by full hd lcd then dlp rear pro floowed by plasma and if you dont have the light problems its go hard with the projector aand if I cop any flak check the website he is the master at this tuff in the bisisness since tv was just soundwaves

A plasma picture is way better then any projection TV on the market right now. There are very few LCD's that could even compare to the picture quality of plasma. I work at Abt electronics and overall plasmas are a way better product when it comes to picture quality, etc. go here to read what we have. We carry all higher lines etc. If you looking to get the best picture for plasma look into the Pioneer Elite series. If your looking for a good budget TV look at Panasonic. abtelectronics.com

Samsung has a line of DLP sets out this year that dont use a bulb.
They've replaced it with high intensity LED's that wont ever burn out.

Of course, that adds at least $500 to the MSRP, but no more bulb burnout.
Horrible product. By doing this they created a TV that won't burn out but the picture is extremely dark. It looks horrible when it comes to refresh rate and picture quality

Have you even seen the 87 series Samsung DLPs that have the 18 LED's as a backlight? It is most certainly NOT dark and the picture quality is something for every other dlp to take notes from...

How does it look if you are standing 15ft away?
Should I go for 1080 dpi? what does the i or p after the 1080 resolution number I see sometimes mean?

What does integrated mean? Does that mean it has a hd tuner built in?
1080p is progressive scan

1080i is interlace scan

The difference between the two is...

Progressive scan is constantly scanning the tv in an up and down formation. It's the quickest refresh rate and your going to get the best picture quality. 1080p is a HUGE selling pont right now as it's the highest resolution.

Interlace, which isn't as good, send halves of the picture at a time. The best way of explaining it is that it sends part of the picture then the rest comes in behind it. It's slower and you will get "picture break up" using an interlace signal.

Look for anything that is 1080p or 720p resolution. 1080p is better but you can go for 720p if it's cheaper.

I audition them and sell them. The quality isn't there yet, seriously. It's a great start but they need to do a lot more. I actually have the 89 series which replace the 87 series and it's getting better but it's still not all the way there yet.

This is very true. CRT technology is still the best picture quality that you can get. The only problem is that they couldn't make tv's larger then 32" Yeah I believe sony sold a 36" but who wants a TV that weighed in over 500lbs. But CRT still surpasses both LCD, DLP, and Plasma.

Uh not to be rude but you are COMPLETELY WRONG on every product.

1080p does not cost more then what it's worth by any means.

You don't need an HD-DVD player?

LCD's are not truer colors. They have amazing picture quality yes but they aren't "truer" then plasmas. Yeah you don't have burn in but you have dead pixels. and to correct what I said you can get burn in on an LCD as well. They aren't any lighter

Plasmas - They are just as heavy, They don't have glare - just as much as anything else (at least none of the new ones), and by NO means what so ever do they have less acurate colors.

DLP - just not a fan of....

Not trying to bash you but your not giving him acurate information.

So plasma then, I think. In 1080p. I know it's kind of stupid but I like the following names:

LG

Pioneer

Maybe Sony. Which is best. My top dollar is about 1400.

Ok so the woman wants a plasma tv. I'm a sound guy not a video guy so I need help.... I read the wiki about plasma tv's and will continute to search and learn but what can you tell me about them? experiences etc.

If you ever plan on playing a video game or using it as a computer monitor as i do i would suggest getting an lcd. I have a plasma (42 inch Samsung) and i do have a faint image of the ESPN logo in my bottom right corner. The Madden ticker used to linger for a few hours when i played that too. Could just be the tv, but still get the lcd. The stuff you will read about (ghosting, etc) will not be even noticeable unless you buy the 2003 plasma or a lcd.

LG = Not so good. But okay for the price

Pioneer = You won't afford one if your looking to spend only 1400

Sony = Doesn't make Plasma's only LCD's

Look into Panasonic or Samsung Plasma's for that price range.

nothing is broadcast in 1080p except blu ray, and hd-dvd and ps3 games. I can see the other guy's point, but i still say get 1080p if you can.

go to frys.com they are bound to have a tv in your price range. they ship anywhere in the us as well.

Yeah I think it makes sense to have the option of 1080 even though I won't use it much at this point. Going to go look at the panaphonics and the sorny lcd's now.
