plasma tv help

This is very true. CRT technology is still the best picture quality that you can get. The only problem is that they couldn't make tv's larger then 32" Yeah I believe sony sold a 36" but who wants a TV that weighed in over 500lbs. But CRT still surpasses both LCD, DLP, and Plasma.

THe best looking plasma that I've seen to date was the Pioneer Elite series. The picture was incredible. A tad bit out of my price range, however.
pioneer elites are ***:)

Basically here is my take on Plasma, LCD, DLP, CRT.

GET A TV THAT YOU LIKE NOT THAT WE LIKE!

Personally I don't really like how LCD looks. I like how Liquid Plasma is.

Burn in isn't an issue if you aren't an idiot. The life of a decent plasma is also equal to a decent LCD.

to get any burn in on any decent LCD you have to have a stillshot on for about 2 weeks.....
LCD is still harder to burn in than a Plasma.

But, I think it is something around 10 Hours for any slight "ghosting". I don't like to call it burn in, because it isn't permanent. If you watch a different channel for a while it will go away... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

The side views on the projection monitors are awful. Also, I have to say that projection TV's do not have better picture over LCD and plasma. It can vary greatly on the manufacturer and model. For instance, Samsung has a 42" LCD with a 25000 : 1 contrast ratio, that blows away any other TV that I have seen with it's 3-D like picture, and rich color definition. On the other hand, Sony has a 50" DLP that looks better than most of the other LCD's and Plasmas that I have seen.

I personally have a Samsung HLT-5087, which I bought in April of this year, and the picture quality of it is far more superior than most of other DLP's that are out there. It does use an LED light engine that's supposed to give you about 100,000 hours of use out of it. Only time will tell if this is true or not. I plan on buying another TV for christmas, but this will be the Samsung LNT-4661F. I really like the LCD's for their convience of wall mounting or just using it's base. Not too mention the 178 degree viewing angle.

While certainly no expert I do have an opinion.

IMO plasma's are still a very good buy for the money. Burn in is not a problem these days and the tv will last for a long time with no problems...there is always a possibility for any tv to not work properly as is well discussed on the home theater forums.

I have a 50" LG plasma...50PC3D to be exact. It is only a 720p/1080i but I can not see the difference compared to a 1080p and generally no one can...again according to HT forums. My LG is nearly a year old and is watched for approx 6 hours, on anyway, daily with absolutely no problems whatsoever. I got it at Best Buy on an unadvertised sale for $1800...a very good price last year.

According to reviews and forums the top picture plasma is the Pioneer Elite. Panasonic is also very highly rated and usually second to the Pioneer. LG is somewhere in the middle of the pack or maybe a bit higher but when I compared mine to the Panny I saw no picture difference and could not afford the Pioneer.

LCD's are much better than they have been. Ghosting is not a big problem on quality tv's but like any tv if you buy the "bargain/off brand" model you are going to get low quality picture.

Angle viewing is generally not a big deal unless you have a lot of people watching tv at one time then it's "oh well" do the best you can.

LCD's are probably costing less to produce than plasmas and are probably the wave of the future until the next technology replaces it. They are getting better and better with each generation and will continue to improve.

Buy the tv that has the best picture to your eyes. You can't go wrong with any good quality plasma or lcd just stay away from the "bargain" brands.

Other types, dlp, etc. are still popular tvs and in some ways have a better picture than plasma's or lcd's but there are trade offs...size and mounting are the biggest, rear projection tv's are deeper than the plasma's/lcd's and you can not wall mount them. They are less costly and you can get a larger tv for the money so if room size is not an issue you can get a great tv at a very good price. But rear projection tv's are an older technology that is being superceded by the plasma and lcd's.

There are some problems with some of the rear projection tv's but generally they don't always occur. Sony had a big problem with the "green blob" on some models and dlp's can cause a "rainbow effect" that is troublesome to some viewers but it related to the individual's vision of the tv rather than a tv problem. These and other problems and high points to all tv's can be found and read adnauseum on the HT forums.

Were I to do it again and had the choice between a plasma or lcd I would not hesitate to buy the plasma as I think it still has the best attributes compared to a lcd though it is close. I would still buy the LG over the others though if money were not an issue I would buy the Pioneer Elite in a heart beat.

Good luck and keep us informed.

Awesome post Kai. Very informative. Surprising that panasonic is considered better than pioneer. Going to read all those links and I will check back here...****, I change my mind everytime I read another post. Now it's plasma because they solved the burn in issues with screensaver/movers and it seems like the plasma will look better than the lcd.

I stated that plasma was overall going to be your best choice...kids just don't listen these days!

I read everything you wrote and it seemed like lcd was still the better choice after more but that last post swayed me once again.

If that is the 50-sumthin inch then yes, BIG BALLER!

I saw it at the Magnolia room with the Pioneer Blu Ray player Demo disk. The disk had sushi and $hit on it and I swear to you, it looked I could just reach in and grab me one of dem rolls. That TV was over 7 grand!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Oh by the way. I am watching my Plasma right now and it is a bit sunny and I can see it just fine...
thats true plasmas are ultra bright and good for rooms with lots of light but heh 40",50",60",70" is small for ht, personally I like a big image at least 96"...
