If your goal is just to have sound in the truck then for sure just replace the old worn out speakers. If your goal is louder or more accurate sound then typically rear speakers are not needed and other gear will come into play. Does your son have expectations on what kind of stereo he would like or are you being kind and making sure he has something to listen to?

No sir, just wanted something to listen to that is reputable.
