plasma tv help

Attention CA.com:
"DLP's have THE BEST picture quality of any tv on the market!!!"

Too bad the guy on the extreme left and the guy on the extreme right cannot see it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
try again. stop looking at bargain basement tv's:laugh:

Samsung has a line of DLP sets out this year that dont use a bulb.
They've replaced it with high intensity LED's that wont ever burn out.

Of course, that adds at least $500 to the MSRP, but no more bulb burnout.
yes:)

I have a 42" plasma and I love it. I cant stand the "plastic" look to LCD or Dlp screens and the viewing angles sux0rs on them. If you leave your TV on all day all of the time, then maybe plasma isnt for you....but hell man I have mine on maybe 3 hours a day so at that rate it should last plenty of years.

i have a 50" and i love it:)

My favorite sets are the rear projection LCOS sets made by Sony (SXRD) and JVC (HD-ILA).

Images as fliud as plasma, bright as LCD, rated even higher in image quality than any DLP sets made.

If those two companies would end their use of bulbs by following Samsung's use of LED's I would already own one of their HDTV's, but with a bulb costing around $300 and lasting around 1 year (for the amount of time a set is on in my houshold) it aint gonna happen.

I'll be looking at either an LCD flatscreen or a Samsung DLP, depending on whether the price for >50" LCD sets comes down to the same price as DLP.

Ok so the woman wants a plasma tv. I'm a sound guy not a video guy so I need help.... I read the wiki about plasma tv's and will continute to search and learn but what can you tell me about them? experiences etc.
Things to consider:

Budget

Application(watching news, movies, video games etc)

Room Type (bedroom, living room etc)

Room size

Functionality (can you hang it to save space)

Take all of the above into consideration prior to spending hard earned cash. Do more research and phyisicaly go and look at TV's. With your budget at the top of the list start eliminating TV's that arent going to be "right" for you. When you do find one you are comfortable with, read some online reviews to get an idea of what others with that model TV have to say. This way you wont run into any surprises! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Good luck!

Good info guys. Still undecided. We are headed to sears this weekend, I guess they are having a sale, personally I hate the place and think it's overpriced but hopefully they will have some models I am familiar with.

How does it look if you are standing 15ft away?

Should I go for 1080 dpi? what does the i or p after the 1080 resolution number I see sometimes mean?

What does integrated mean? Does that mean it has a hd tuner built in?

1080p- in the end is more cost than it's worth, for most anyways...

HD-DVD player- at least 300$

entirely new DVD collection- ...............

TV's added cost - ~ couple of hundred dollars

LCDs- truer colors than plasmas, lighter, no burn in, more models in 1080p, less "fragile", easier to mount due to lightness, no glare

Plasmas- heavy, glass= glare, less accurate colors...

DLP- faster response times??? better for games??? (correct me if I'm wrong,) cheaper, take up more space.

Is this for your car? Or in home use???

Anyways, I say go for a nice (Toshiba, Samsung, LG(eh)) LCD TV in 1080i/ 720p....

fact? you are still glossing over the fact that dlp has the best pic:) continue your idiocy now:)
Not exactly, CRT's as in old fashioned picture tube TV's have THE best picture and no viewing angle issues, burn in, etc...

If you have the room and don't need a monster set you can get a 32" HD tube TV for around $400. Then get a PJ for the times you want a BIG screen //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You all rip plasma's for burn in...but heres a thought, dont buy a shit plasma that doesnt have built in pixel shift or screen wipes! Buy a panasonic, samsung, or pioneer plasma if your leaning that way.

I have to look at this shit every god **** day and the only TV's that give plasma's a run for the money picture-wise, are the Samsung 65, 71, and 81 series...everything else is dull and lackluster...
