Doesn't a DMM with test tones only give you the power without clipping? It is still the same wattage, just the signal is not clipped.a DMM with test tones.
you can set the gain to whatever voltage (wattage) you want. my amp can do over 205 watts per channel but i set the gain with a -3db tone to set it to 150watts rms. you can do the math and set the gain to whatever number you want.Doesn't a DMM with test tones only give you the power without clipping? or am I wrong?
Do you know where I can get the calculation?you can set the gain to whatever voltage (wattage) you want. my amp can do over 205 watts per channel but i set the gain with a -3db tone to set it to 150watts rms. you can do the math and set the gain to whatever number you want.
you take the impedance which is 4 ohms and then you take whatever your desired wattage is and multiply them together, then the square root of that number will be the A/C volts that you want to set your gains to.Do you know where I can get the calculation?
Thanks for the help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I want to run right at 120rms for these.
I honestly did not know that!you take the impedance which is 4 ohms and then you take whatever your desired wattage is and multiply them together, then the square root of that number will be the A/C volts that you want to set your gains to.
so 4 x 120 = 480, then you get the square root of that which is 21.9. so you turn the gain knob while playing a tone until the dmm reads that.
well i have had them with the gains set to 150 since the day i put them in. they take it just fine. they are never seeing 150 watts anyway since music is dynamic. i think they are most of the time (when i really have them cranked) seeing probably around 80-100 watts. i like having headroom!I honestly did not know that!
Thanks for that info! I'll have to give that a try.
How long have you been running your comps on power over 120?
I feel like I am being schooled in amps today (and yesterday).well i have had them with the gains set to 150 since the day i put them in. they take it just fine. they are never seeing 150 watts anyway since music is dynamic. i think they are most of the time (when i really have them cranked) seeing probably around 80-100 watts. i like having headroom!
nah i'm saying you should bridge it. give them 150 watts per side with the gains set correctly. read the gain setting tutorial on here.I feel like I am being schooled in amps today (and yesterday).
So my amp is rated at 80rms (from tru while doing the burr-brown upgrade) does this mean that I should just leave it alone? If I bridged it, it would be getting about 150ish rms. Doesn't that mean all the time? Which would end up being a bad thing on the speakers.
It can't be that hard. I am in the same position you are. I can make 5.25's fit but I bought 6.5's. No garage, some tools. Watch me make this b!tch fitWell, I really want the 6.5s, but I live in an apartment...no garage...no tools //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
thanks!Just ordered the 6.5s from audiosavings.com for 87.00 shipped //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif. Im not gonna mess around with this. I read the reviews on here (including yours TC) and I was sold. As for the installation, I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
Very nice install on your Scion by the way, TC. I was thinking about mounting the tweeters in the factory sail panel because I already have some factory tweets there. However, Ive read that the tweets should be placed 6" from the midrange driver, but my sails are about 17" from where the speaker will be in the door. Will this cause imaging problems?
thats the spirit! i'm sure you'll get them in there! It can't be that hard. I am in the same position you are. I can make 5.25's fit but I bought 6.5's. No garage, some tools. Watch me make this b!tch fit.
