PG RSD 5.25" questions

Hi, first post here. Been lurking for a while and learning alot of good information!! I was wondering how noticeable the dropoff is between the PG RSD 6.5s and their 5.25s. I can easily install the 5.25s in my factory door location without any fabrication (a def. plus for me) so that's why I want to go with them instead of the 6.5s which could be a PITA to install.

There are a lot of great reviews for the 6.5s so I would assume that the 5.25s have to be pretty good too, but never hurts to ask...

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

edit: I will also be deadening my doors with damplifierPro, and dont have an amp yet. Ive got my eye on this amp: http://www.millionbuy.com/prfap1000.html

Would that be too much power at 160w X 2 @ 4ohms?

how hard is it to make the 6.5's fit? can you made it fit with a 3/4" mdf baffle/spacer?

i have no info on the 5.25's but i love my 6.5's.

Well, I really want the 6.5s, but I live in an apartment...no garage...no tools //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

have any friends with a garage or tools?
Unfortunately all my "friends" are always strung out, and they definitely dont own any tools...

My girl's dad has alot of tools but he's in Iraq //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif And I wouldnt wanna use em without him around.

I'll try ebay, see what I can find.

Is the dropoff in quality that bad with the 5.25s??

i haven't heard any reviews or anything on the 5.25's so i don't know if they are as good as the 6.5's are.
Sorry bout all the questions...new to car audio (does it show //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif)

What's the difference like, in general, between 5.25s and 6.5s. I mean, is it night and day or more of a subtle difference?

I went to a car audio shop in KC and they didnt even have any 5.25s hooked up to test so I couldnt see for myself what the differences are...not very helpful service I might add...

I told the guy I was ditching the rear 6x9s and going with comps in the front and subs in the trunk and he looked at me like i was crazy, like he had never heard of that before. I've been researching on the internet for like a week and a half and Ive heard "front stage" referenced in almost every thread Ive read thru and this guy has no idea what Im even talking about!! And to top it off he starts giving me installation quotes like Im actually gonna let this guy touch my car!!

nice, i was kinda working at a local shop part time. i told the owner and one of his other guys about my plans to ditch the rears and just run a powerful front stage and they too looked at me like i was crazy. well this is the 2nd car i have had with just a front stage and a sub, and i prefer the sound.

the difference from the 6.5's to the 5.25's should just be a little less output and a little less low end extension. they just simply won't play quite as loud or quite as low. if you can't fit 6.5's then i guess you have to get 5.25's. are you going to add a sub or two in the future?

Actually I bought an older rockford 250@2 amp and two rockford subs in a box a couple years ago for like 50 bucks that I never got around to installing. They've been sitting at my parents house so Im gonna install those too when I get the comps in.

Eventually Im gonna go to a single sub that is more oriented toward good SQ, but the RFs will have to do for now...

sounds like a good start.

when you move onto a more SQ oriented sub check out the Dayton Reference H.O. line of subs. i love mine!

Alright, cool man. Thanks for the help! Hopefully someone will drop by who has actually used/heard the PG 5.25s so I can get a better idea of what they're capable of. Anyways, thanks...you've been a big help!
