PA system...

Ok guys be patient with me because this is my first venture into speaker design/ outside of car audio. I felt like designing a PA system for my friends band, and this is kind of what I came up with:

Amp: Dayton PMA250

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-797

Woofers: Dayton RS180S-8's

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=295-364&dotd=101405

Tweeter: Horn

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=270-049

Now what I was thinking of doing is making two different cabinets, each with 2 7" drivers and one tweeter, and then building the amp in to one of the cabinets. I should be OK with one of those amps, correct? Any and all input is greatly appreciated, if I should go with larger drivers or whatever please let me know!

i'd use at least a 10 or 12 pro audio driver instead of those RS. it'll stab me in the heart everytime u play 'em //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

so even if they just want to use this for vocals and they already have amps for guitars and the bass, it still would be a bad idea to use those 7" drivers?

i wouldn't use them. remember, you are needing to make LOTS of sound, for LOTS of people. you need LOTS of displacement to do that. thus, there are 18" woofers and 12" mids for PA which you generally don't see in hifi setups. and the RS is too beautiful to throw in a cage anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That's a good no non-sense design. Driver cost for that system is $200 per box.

The Dayton midrange idea is just too whimpy for a band, the vocals would

get drowned out pretty bad. Even that smithereen system would be barely

adequate if the guitar player likes to play loud and if the guitar player is using

more than a single 12", forget it, he's drown out the voice. Most bands lack vocal authority and get

drowned out by instruments. Ever been to a concert where you understood the

words sung? // hehehehe //

The NSB line array idea has interesting benefits for less driver cost but

involves more labor.

We already have one guy who compared the NSB array to the $2000 Bose PAS

system and they think it's an awsome alternative and the system was tested

live with great results => and he didn't even use a tweeter on the NSB array,

he did use an active crossover and EQ that was standard gear for this rig.

A two tower '8 driver NSB's array' stacked on top of each other is $24.

49 cent per driver + shipping = ~ $24 experiment. Get some cheap plywood

and make a small tower and if you don't like it, you didn't spend tons of cash on

it. Worse case, you can sell the system to another band and profit off the deal.

Two stackable towers to make transportation easy, nobody wants to haul

around a single 16 driver tower so you make two 8 driver towers so they

fit in a truck.

SELENIUM WPU1209-SLF 12" PRO SOUND DRIVER

Sensitivity is 95dB.

Two tower 16 driver NSB array

8 ohm wiring = 98dB sensitivity.

2 ohm wiring = 104dB sensitivity

A tall line array loses less SPL over distance vs. the point source so

the NSB array will appear to be louder over a greater distance and it

will sound cleaner, an army of 16 4" drivers sound amazing, don't let the

small size fool you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It's alot of work though to cut 16 holes and make the NSB's fit nice.

The line array idea has upgrade potential. Not loud enough? Spend another $24

to make another tower, spread them out or place them close to each other - a matrix array. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ,

add another 3dB to the sensitivity specs.

Cannibal Corpse inspires my speaker ideas.

What a sound system should do is akin to their song names;

An Experiment In Homicide

Relentless Beating

Shredded Humans

Put Them To Death

Scattered Remains, Splattered Brains

Bloody Chunks

Covered With Sores

Rancid Amputation

Innards Decay

Stripped, ***** And Strangled

Pulverized

Devoured By Vermin

Disfigured

Puncture Wound Massacre

Eaten From Inside

Savage Butchery

Dormant Bodies Bursting

Compelled to Lacerate

Hung and Bled

Mutation of the Cadaver

Frantic Disembowelment

.. and after there is Nothing left To Mutilate,

you Orgasm Through Torture

My audio recipe... sssshhhhhh....

I've been planning such a system for years //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/satan.gif.9c6a335ed7aeeed3ee273e573f1fcaac.gif .. I'm still collecting drivers ... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
