OPinons, should I port them?

Alright guys i have another question for you. Right now I have 2 12" type Es getting 250 watts each right now. I am happy with them and they serve their purpose but I wanna get them louder and also try to hit a little better on the low nights. WOuld a ported box help or only ruin it? Also, getting an upgrade is out of the question because my alternator cant take it and no one makes one for my car, 04 forenza basically a civic, and if they did i cant risk it messing up and not starting one day. My locally shop quoted me at $200, i am not trying to brag or anything but I can afford that easily and I know this hop so I know they do great work. Basically is it worth it to port them or leave them sealed. How much SQ will i lose with ported?

Port them if you want more out of it. You wont loose much SQ if the box is proper for the subs and its tuned on the lower side

What would be a good tuing, 33-35 hZ? Also can it hurt if you make the box as big as possbile? Will more space hurt in anyway behind the suggested specs?

you don't have to make it as big as possible. generally you want to make the enclosure bigger if you have less power available. i believe you have adequate power for those subs. what music do you listen too? i like to tune around 30-32 hz.

x2, also, you can build your own box for about a 10th of the cost of what they want to build one for you, just have someone on here make you some plans, and make it yourself.

I ported my type-e 10s (despite alpine's recomendation not to)and was quite amazed. I built my own box using http://www.accelerator-pedal.com/ported-box.asp

I made the box 2.75^ft3 @32hz

Why does Alpine recommend against porting them, is there some risk? I always listen to rap so I wanna be able to hit the lower otes a little better. What do you recommend I tune the box to?

I just went a measured my trunk. right now my sealed box is 14.5" tall but its in the back of the trunk and right above it is a little black box so then I could add 2 inches to that only. But if i bring the box forward I could probably put 18inches height with 19-20 inches deep and 50 inches accross, opinons?

Tune the box to 30hz, as for size Id have to look at the alpine specs but id say around 1.75 ccft per woofer and 40-50sqin of port area between the 2 of them

Thats what they recommend. Would it be better to have a port on each side or one on top? I have heard people say tune the box to 33-35 hz how does that compare with 30 hz?

It says below the tuned setting the subs might start to get damged, how high of a risk is it to run a ported box at 30 hz? Also does it mean anything that alpine recommends against it?
