I have a friend that wants to wire up 8 6x9’s in a bus. Would it be better to get a 4 channel amp that is stable to 2ohms per channel and wire the speakers in parallel per each pair or go with a 2 channel amp and wire them in series parallel (4 speakers per channel) for a 4ohm load into 2 channels?

look around at different amps you may like. a 2ohm stable 4channel would give more tuning flexability

The 3 I've found that are 2ohm stable is the

RF P400-4

Alpine PDX-4

Kicker ZX 654.4

This is going into a party bus so we aren't looking for the greates sq, drunks just want it to be loud. LOL

look at the dc 175.4 it will give 1000 watts rms at 2 ohms

didn't imagine you were after sq, lol. even so, i think the kicker zx 650.4 is going to be the best choice. it's the most flexible for install, durable, and plenty powerful. the p-400-4 might be close in power if it's about 4years old or more the pdx might be as powerful, if it's the pdx-4.150, but it has those stupid speaker connector plugs, which you might loose, or damage. and, should the party get roudy enough that the amp falls into great mishap, i would personally much rather see the kicker run through the bench, with the parts i probably have on hand anyways.

250 watts per channel for a 6x9's might be a bit overkill don't you think??

Yea I guess when I said 8 6x9's was the first indication that we weren't going for sq. LOL

I liked the layout of the kicker too but didn't know how well it would hold up. I don't understand why the HELL Alpine went with the speaker connectors for their amps.

True and still cheaper then running two 4 channel amps. I might tell him to quit trying to be cheap and just spend the money to have it done right the 1st time. The more I think about it, the more I'd like to run at least 100rms to each speaker.

well, the durability is one of the reasoning's behind the kicker. what is the power rating on the 6x9's? should have asked that first

60 watts rms/200 peak
