one sub vs. having 2 subs???

looking into upgrading my system, and I was considering trying to conserve some space. Right now I have 2 Diamond Audio 10's, and was wanting to get either one 12, or two 12's? If I got a sub w/ high enough power to take the place of the 2, what would be the advantages/disadvantages to having the 2? (other than conservation of space) was thinking either an XXX, Brahma, or w7? what do you guys think, would one do?

Youll have to get a sub with 2 times the excursion, watts ect. to have an equal trade off I think
