So, I can't find the thread I made a few months back... probably got deleted when one of the mods *no names mentioned* deleted a couple thousand of my posts. I just wanted to continue this conversation...

Lately, I've been listening to a lot of The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Yes.

One thing that took me by surprise is the movie "Across the Universe." It was basically a 2-hour music video where they brought about 30 Beatles tracks to life. It's amazing that 40 years later, their songs are still being remade, and are just so **** good. For anyone who wants a new take on Beatles songs, check out that soundtrack.

One thing that I love about the aforementioned bands was their variety. My dad said that so many artists made their albums "Musical Buffets" to where there would be something that appealed to most. For example, I didn't even know that Eminence Front was even done by The Who... because Rick Wakeman sang that one!

Pink Floyd is my new favorite. Their music is so harmonious. It is just amazing. I can't even describe it. There's just nothing new that can touch it. Yes, Tool and all those others you brought up are good bands and all, but they just can't touch the stuff from the Classic Rock era.

There are a lot of really good older music that is redone.

Good songs are always good songs!

But, I like the Beatles' songs but don't like how the Beatles sound. So I love it when people redo their music.

Tax Man, redone by Power Station, is a perfect example.

I saw that Accost the Universe movie, and I liked it because it was all redone beatles songs... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

My girl drug me to see "Across The Universe". I didn't know wtf to expect. Was very and pleasently surprised. My music production teacher has played a lot of Beatles and Jimi Hendrix to show us how techniques were done. These bands broke a lot of ground.

I think I'm going to be gay from now on.

Talking to a female friend of mine

[23:10] jmanpc: I'm stuck on Pink Floyd right now.

[23:11] C****: Oh i've heared of them

[23:11] jmanpc: you've just heard of them?!

[23:12] C**** No i know who your talking about

[23:12] jmanpc: they're possibly the best progressive band of the classic rock era

[23:12] C****: There good

[23:12] C****: yeah

WTF

Not only that they are recorded wonderfully and live they had Buford Jones as the FOH guy...

Can't get much better than that... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

don't try and talk music to people if they only listen to new age stuff. Most likely people have only "heard" of bands that should be remembered but don't know the reasons as to why they should be remembered.
Oh Indeed...

But I must say I thought I knew a lot about bands and music until I got into Vinyl. WOW, there is a whole world of stuff there that I never really knew about.

I downloaded a little package on the pirate bay that included some pretty cool bands...I only kept what I liked which includes(artist and album):

The Collectors-Grass and Wild strawberries

Stained Glass-Aurora

The Insect Trust-Hoboken Saturday night

The adventures of Robert Savage-Vol. 1

Pretty **** cool stuff, Psychedelic Rock from late 60s, early 70s...Check it out man...if you can't find it, I can upload them or something in due time...

Also check out Jefferson Airplane...

There is some extremely good old rock. I saw Across the Universe...I thought it was okay but I didn't think the music did The Beatles justice. I can still appreciate it as a fan, though.

The Who are simply amazing...Quadrophenia on vinyl still makes me quiver. And Floyd is always good, but Wish You Were Here is undoubtedly their best album.

Classic Rock is in a weird place....you hear a lot of singles on the radio over and over and over again, but the genre is still under-appreciated. Take some time to download the full discography of a lot of the premier bands and I think a lot of people will be really impressed.

Don't forget to listen to Fleetwood Mac - Rumors. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
