Okay enough is enough

so when GM went to Capital Hill 8 months ago asking for their first 30 billion and said they do not have the capital to keep the company running for another 4 months? you make no sense
Are you retarded? What the **** does me talking about how employees who have spent their whole life there have to do with the CEO's going to Washington D.C? Someone who has spent their whole life at a company won't know 20, 30 years in the future what that company is going to be like you stupid shit.

That statement is what makes no sense.

I didn't know they did this 20 years ago. Where are the hundreds of thousands of GM workers suppose to get jobs? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Lets not to forget unemployment rates and jobless rates are the highest in decades.
so it takes 20 years to find a new job?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

LOL they aren't going to shut it down. They plan to be in bankruptcy for 2-3 months. This in no way means GM is going out of business. They are simply restructuring the company.
interesting.. so then it is not exactly a bankruptcy?

and to me, GM wins in this way since they wont go out of business and get aid for free? unless they would have to pay back the government a large fee?

sorry if I look like an idiot but I am still learning I guess

The point is, you retard, when these people hired into GM 20 years ago, no one would envision a company like GM going bankrupt. Now where the hell do you think 300,000 GM workers are going to find a job?

they have to pay back

while everyone in your neighborhood drives a Nissan or Toyota right? yet again you make no sense. just b/c you know 2 ppl that drive GM cars means nothing b/c everyone else drive what you and your gramps call jap crap.

uhm, did I state anywhere that Japanese car's are bad? my dad owns a Toyota truck that has lasted for a long time, and he is just selling a Datsun that he never fixed that has lasted surprisingly well in the environment. My Mom owns a Honda, and that same grandpa owns a Toyota, before which he owned a Honda.

You are an idiot.

It's chapter 11 bankruptcy. basically in simple terms, GM will restructure their company under the protection of bankruptcy court. Chrysler is doing the same thing and will be emerging from bankruptcy any time now. The bankruptcy court comes in, restructures the company to make it viable, settles debt, and than eventually the company will emerge on its own. Other companies to file chapter 11 are Kmart, Dow Corning, United Airlines, Texaco, and of course Chrysler. Chapter 7 means the company is done and all the assets are liquidated.

i'm the retard??? I make money and don't ask for hand outs. GM asks for handouts and didn't do anything to change the company yet the ppl working for GM thought that sales would magically increase? I hope you're one of those retards.

Our economy can't survive on stateside service jobs alone once everything that can be outsourced (manufacturing, tech, etc) is gone for good. If we want to have any hope of the US retaining any sort of wealth we need to be saving any US jobs we can. Aslong as US car companies can be competitive when they come out of bankruptcy, it is a worthwhile investment of the gov (with the people's money) to try and keep them viable.

I'm sure there is a line where dumping in more and more money to a losing corporation is a bad idea, but with so many jobs at stake, we have to atleast try.

Hopefully all the suppliers whose sole customers were the big 3 have learned to diversify a bit from this snafu...
