Okay enough is enough

i'm the retard??? I make money and don't ask for hand outs. GM asks for handouts and didn't do anything to change the company yet the ppl working for GM thought that sales would magically increase? I hope you're one of those retards.
You are the reason why this country is failing.

Our economy can't survive on stateside service jobs alone once everything that can be outsourced (manufacturing, tech, etc) is gone for good. If we want to have any hope of the US retaining any sort of wealth we need to be saving any US jobs we can. Aslong as US car companies can be competitive when they come out of bankruptcy, it is a worthwhile investment of the gov (with the people's money) to try and keep them viable.
I'm sure there is a line where dumping in more and more money to a losing corporation is a bad idea, but with so many jobs at stake, we have to atleast try.

Hopefully all the suppliers whose sole customers were the big 3 have learned to diversify a bit from this snafu...
These suppliers make car parts. There are only so many car manufactures. Hell if these suppliers lose their contract with GM, that could put them out of business and screw up Ford's supplier network.

Where in christ sakes are 300,000 workers suppose to find jobs in 8 months? What do you mean they didn't do anything? They closed factories, cut jobs, opened their labor contract, negotiated a debt for equity swap with their bond holders, killed off Pontiac, and are selling Saturn, Hummer, and Saab.

Exactly my point, too many jobs are dependent on the survival of the big 3. The suppliers can manufacture parts/supplies for other industries, but some chose not to.

There was one supplier company (can't remember their name) in the senate hearings that advised they would be alright if the big 3 tanked as they diversified and supplied to other industries...if other suppliers had done this the loss of some/all of the big 3 wouldn't have been as big of an impact.

My dad worked for Ford, which spun off Visteon and his plant changed to Visteon. He remained a Ford employee but worked for Visteon. Towards the end of his career, he was making movie theater seats, but was a Ford employee. Visteon just now filed bankruptcy. I really don't think these suppliers can survive without the auto industry regardless of diversifying. Parts such as movie theater seats can be made in third world countries at rates much lower than minimum wage here.

Agreed, so can cars though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

We are fukt coming and going

There is a higher demand for cars in the US than say movie theater seats. I still think auto manufacturing will be in the US, but nowhere near the levels it used to be.

Many companies besides the Big three have plants here (which make cars), so they must be able to do it somehow.

right this is why I employ ppl and you are an employee. while I hire ppl and you complain.

well if those ppl would be willing to work in a non-unionized business they probably could find a place to work. sorry man but companies don't find jobs for their employees, it's something they do on their own.

amazing how many of you are justifing the bailout that didn't work. most all of those employees that are losing or lost their job are doing absolutely nothing. only a small percentage are actually trying to find work and those ppl are looking to make $30/hr no matter what job they get. that is just not realistic.

Millions of people are jobless right now. You thinking another 300,000 needing jobs will be able to find them? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Do you really think someone is going to walk away from GM after working there 20 years, with a mortgage and a family to work at Walmart? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif I'd try riding it out at GM and go down with GM.

How do you know they are doing nothing? I know a guy who worked at the GM Tech Center and lost his job. He went to ****ing Alaska to work on a pipeline.

Speaking of doing nothing, there was an article in the Detroit Free Press about thousands of former auto workers who are entering nursing programs to become nurses.

When did I ever justify the bailout? When did I support the UAW? They helped sink the ship.

We were talking about quality of cars. And of course I am not going to be a manager or owner of a business, as I'm 19. I work at an Engineering Contractor drafting as an intern. I could care less what you think of me, because your an idiot, but you know what, it sure beats working at mcdonalds or some shit job that most of my other classmates are doing. I'm working for a real engineering company doing real work drafting, and I'm only one year into college.

So mr. employer, you can kiss my ***.

I really wish I didn't hate the public so much, healthcare sounds like a good place to be for the future

The economy would be in better shape if people would put their pride aside. People need to get out there and get a new job. Don't count on failing auto companies to bounce back and get your job back. McDonalds and Walmart are almost always hiring. As stated before there's a lot of openings as security jobs and those jobs pay fairly decent. Work your *** off and get back on your feet. Stop complaining all the time and do something about it. People are standing around waiting for something to happen instead of going out and getting it for themselves.
