Oh No Sub Is Smelling

OK I HAD THE SUBS HOOKED UP TO A BD1000. ABOUT 600 WATTS EACH. IT GOT LOUD AS HELL.

OK I BOUGHT TWO LANZAR VIBE 1800D AMPS. ONE PER SUB, AMP GAINS A LITTLE OVER HALF, NO BASS BOOST USED.

the subs got extremely loud and then started popping and shh. my entire car smells like burning rubber. THE SUBS STILL PLAY, BUT IM JUST KEEPING THE VOLUME LOW.

they are old school hifonics subs 1250 WATTS RMS? yeah right. i bought them new in the box

they are in a 1.5 cubes per ported box tuned to 40hz. subsonic filter is set to 40hz.

sorry for the caps. the lanzar amp only puts out 1000 watts rms. why are these things smoking. they didnt with the rf bd1000.

wtf is wrong. everything was professionally installed and i watched most of it.

whats really funked up is i asked the ebay company for some suggestions and a guy told me that lanzar is cheap and he's not responsible for bad installs.

unreal

could be any number of things , from bad install to not enough power causing voltage drop.the popping sound could have been a few different things .

1 sub bottoming out.

2. incorrectly set subsonic filter ( causing bottoming)

3. a bad ground or one that is way to long. ( had this problem myself)

also make sure your gains are set properly you would be suprised at how many shops/installers have no idea how to properly set gains.

the final cause im going to mention is the one most easily overlooked .... overzelous new owner you know the guy that just got new subs and decides to crank his bass output to +a gajjilion to see " what they really can do ".

btw im drinking gin right now so excuse any mistakes found .

im sure other causes can be found these are just off the top of my head .

dude i just found out that the 1250 rms was actually pe power.

this item was not accurately advertised. and i just bought two freakin amps.

what kinda deck are you using? i wouldnt say the ssf was set incorrectly because people have them a little lower than tunning.
alpine 7873. i dont turn my sub volume higher than 5.

the sub is being overpowered. funked up.

all signs point to not that, at least to me...

subs "got loud then started popping and shi t", im guessing they were bottoming out, reaching their mechanical limits. very bad, yes, deathly, not exactly. the subs could still be technically OK, expecially since they are still playing...

as for the car smelling like burning rubber, im guessing its a very over powering sweet smell. if thats the case, its the amps. and if the subs are still going, that means the amps are still going. they got hot, the sweet smell is some capacitors getting hot and coming close ot failure.

after further reading, if the amps are smoking, my first guess was correct... its your amps. they are getting hot, going into clipping(putting out more power then they are supposed to, and its dangerous) causeing the subs to bottom, and like i said, what you are smelling is the amps. be careful, keep pushing them, and they are close to failure...

id almost be willing to bet money this is the cause //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
