noobe SQ system set-up questions

I am looking at setting up my system for SQ. Don't know if I will compete but I spent a bunch of cash on equipment and I want it to sound the best it can. I have been doing installs for a couple years now but really just in factory locations and maybe build a sub box and a couple speaker panels. I have a couple questions first. Hopefully someone has some useful info.

I have heard many people say they just run front speakers and a sub for the best sound. Is this common?

Should I be running my sub in a small sealed box?

Should I run my eclipse components through 2 channels and the factory crossovers and then the 3rd and 4th channel could run a 3rd 6" driver in the front as well?

Do RCAs matter that much? I have a set of shielded stingers.

I bought 70 sq ft of Brown bread. Not installed yet. What should I cover first to make sure I hit the important spots before running out?

This is the equipment I currently own and want to use.

Eclipse CD8053 HU

Eclipse PA5422 4 channel amp

Eclipse 5 1/4 Components

Eclipse 5 1/4 Point source speakers (Rears, Do I need these?)

1 Farad monster cap

JL 500/1 amp

Xtant 1244 12" sub in 1.75 cubic ft sealed box

Any other help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a nice system...

very common...

Depends on what you like, but I prefer the sound of a low tuned ported box, tuned somewhere around 27-30Hz. But a lot of that is personal taste.

You mean like a front-mounted sub? Somebody with more experience with front-mounted bass could probably comment on this, but I didn't like it when I had my e12a.22 up front.

If you've already got Stingers, that's as good as you'll need. As long as you get something above the bottom of the barrel...

Doors, trunk lid (if you have a trunk), doors, side panels, did I mention doors? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Seriously, well-deadened doors will do wonders for your midbass.

1) Yes, just run front speakers... take the rear ones out!

2) Yes run your sub in the manufacurer's sealed box suggestion (usually 1cf for sq subs) It will sound better in Rock/Pop and other fast moving bass. For Rap ported is good

3) No... that's not what I would do... a real nice high end amp/seperates package and do everything custum. Seperates from Focal (any), DLS (any?), Rainbow, Diamond, Boston Z6 series, Kicker SS, etc. Get a zapco amp (any)!... theses setups will eat the eclipses alive (I love their HU's though)... but you already have the eclipses so umm... don't use factory studd if possible.. not even speaker placement (kicks are best for sq)...

4) ohh the JL is a nice amp too

5) Umm the RCAs are not ALL the same in quality but I don't think you need to spend $90 on a set of RCA's.. it's all markup

6) ok, you don't need that cap but if you already have it use it I guess... your better off getting a nicer battery

7) Use the sound deadining in the trunk, doors first, then wheel wells/firewall and then floor pans and other... remember to save some to run down the rattles at the end... and save some to do the doors again //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif and again //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I bought the cap only because there was a liquidation sale in my city about a year ago. It was about $50 cdn so I picked it up. Can't hurt right?

nope... it can't hurt... in fact it'll help a bit... it's just funny cause you can buy a nice battery for less than most caps...
