Hey all, question bout my speakers....i have a subaru wrx with terrible factory speakers....along with that, the factory speaker holes are only FOUR INCHES!....even if i did spend money on new speakers, id feel jipped if i had to settle for 4" speakers....so, my buddy just got a new system, and didnt need his kenwood speakers....dont remember the exact model, but theyre somewhere around 5" X 7"

Now, my question is, how hard is it to make a bigger opening for the speakers to sit in....the height is fine, but the length needs to be cut about 3 more inches outward....i went to my local car audio shop, and the guy looked at me like i was an idiot for just asking, but screw him....he told me it would be about $200 for the job, so i said no way....anyway, as dumb as it sounds, is this a possibility for me to do this on my own?....im pretty handy and have lots of tools....also, i read in a few places you can do this job on some cars with just a nice pair of tin snips....any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

if you have experience cutting metal than you should be fine. It's going to be messy and complicated but a zaw saw should do the job. just draw out your lines with a marker and check behind for any wires, shouldn't have any problems.

If I can offer one piece of advice, OMFG make sure the windows are rolled UP!!!

If they're down, they'll be inside your door panel and there's a good chance that your reciprocating saw will poke the window and most likely shatter it. Just a heads up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

When I upgraded my 4x6s to 5 1/4" the local shop told me the only way was to cut into the door panel, which I would never do because the risk of breaking something is too high for me. But there were adapters to go from 4x7 to 5.25. I'd check for an adapter before you go cutting stuff.

And i'd never cut into a Subie, if I owned one ;p. They're my favorite car.

OP, you're not seriously considering cutting into your WRX just to install a bigger speaker, are you? It has to be a bad joke. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Heres my baby.... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3175713

Ok, so thanks for the quick replies....the thing is, the door panels are so thin on my car(they do everything they can to save weight), so i think it might actually be kind of easy, and im going to first try doing this with heavy duty tin snips (i do construction), THEN maybe a sawz all.

Also, wassup, what are kick panels(again, im a noob)

Thnks guys!

So, thanks for the replies guys...but, im still wondering if theyres any of you who have actually done this before?....also, what tool do you guys recomend for the actual cutting?....would a sawz all with a metal blade really be practical?...my friend claims hes a "surgeon" with it, haha

Lol if he claims that let him do it. Although i think if i were doing it i wouldn't use one. I think the blade would be too flimsy and shake around when cutting the hole. If i were to do it i would do it the retard way and get a drill with a large drill bit. Drill lots of holes and then sand it down lol. Just because it would be almost impossible to fvck up that way. But if your friend is that good. Just go with the sawzall lol. My way is very impractical
