Newbie needs amp recommendation.

I am new to car audio, so I need a little help finding the right amp for my subs.

I have what I am told are two 10" MTX Thunder 5000's in their original sealed enclosure (T5210 is the model, I believe) that a friend bought and never used.

They are 4 ohm subs, rated 250w RMS / 500w peak each, and I would like to power them with at least a halfway decent amp, but my budget is tight. I don't necessarily need 250w RMS each, I just need something that can power them enough to avoid clipping. I have maybe $150 to spend on an amp, but would like to have some left over for wiring upgrades.

Could someone help me out?

get the alpine mrp-m500 or mrp-m450 , both can be has for $50-100 on ebay all the time, solid 500 rms at 2 ohms, perfect for your speakers. Or save a little more get an amp thats 1000-1500 at 1 ohm and 500-750 at 2 ohm, you will have the power for your subs now and more available at a lower ohm load if/when you upgrade later. Could get a used mb quart dsc1000.1 or 1500.1 for under 200 on here or caco

mono amp works fine, i think pioneer makes a 500x1@2ohm as well as the kenwood and alpines i listed but i think its a little more like $135

search for reviews or take ur pick on brand preference. they will all get the job done fine

No need to match those subs. He can use a higher wattage amplifier just fine. That amp is not worth that price, whether MTX thinks it is or not.

OP: Sony amps are junk. Dual are even worse. Pioneer are okay. The Kenwood and Alpine suggestions above will work. MTX amps are good but don't pay that much for that little power.

i just got a audiopipe apsm1300 to run my two re audio se10d4's for $115.00 shipped, it does 600watts rms at 2ohms, it would be great for your set-up. i was and am truly suprised at the output of this LITTLE but powerful amp. i shuffled thru alot of stuff about this amp, on this site and any other i could find, when i finally found that it's signal to noise ratio was 70 i was kind of sceptical but i got it.....and i trully am suprised at this little thing. i love it, you can't tell in the gut pics you find, but this thing has a built in fan. it is a great "budget" amp, i will soon be doing the big 3 upgrade then i will be running it in 1.5ohm and i can't wait.

Very early Wednesday night I had to take my wife to the emergency room. She will be fine, but this means that there will likely be big medical bills coming soon, and I will have to wait on getting an amp.

Thanks for your help guys. I will return when my budget allows.

We'll be here. Good luck with the medical situation.
