I need help bad! I am very new to this, and I was wanting to get serious since I just got a new car. I was wondering what I need to get started. I want decent SQ at a reasonable price. I also have no absolute clue what any terms mean (i.e.- channels, farad, ect.). first off how much money do you have to spend for your system?

There are tons of terms defined in a few stickys that would really help you understand the talk a bit more. As for a decent sound quality system, what kind of car did you end up getting, that will give us a better idea of your limitations.

A few suggestions to start with. Look around for a new head unit (the radio) and check for the general features you would like. Second, look around your area to see if you can find a good stereo shop (not best buy/circuit city) that you can really trust. Ask the local patrons of the stereo shop what they think of the local competition. Don't make split second decisions until you've discussed the options thoroughly. There are brands you will want to stay far away from such as audiobahn. There are also brands you will not be able to find in most stores that you should take into consideration. For a starter system, you may want to start out small and build later. A single sub and only components for the front fill will probably give you a really good front stage setup that will dwarf most stock setups (with amps of course).

My budget is around $300 right now . . . . I am trying to get a job. My car is a Malibu, so it has a lot of space in it.

I would kick around the F/S threads and find some decent used equipment. That would be your best bet for finding what you are after.
