Newbie first system build!

Hello, new guy here looking to Build my first custom system. Goal is to have a well rounded system that lets me hear the full range of music. I have an automotive background, I understand 12V, and am comfortable fabricating mounts/enclosures but have never built a custom car audio system. Don’t have an unlimited budget but willing to spend $$ to do it once and do it right.
Q1: vehicle currently has 4 speakers and I want 6 plus a sub(I have room for them). How many pre-outs does my head unit need to have? How many channels does my amp need?
Q2: what dictates the size/power of an amplifier?
Q3: names of quality suppliers for my speaker and power wiring?
Q4: any other considerations I should be aware of?

Vehicle is 1998 Land Rover Discovery and I’d like to replace head unit with an aftermarket unit.

Welcome rovertech001. First Q should be; simple setup, or heavily modified?

The truck is modified heavily for offroad use but I would like to keep the system on the simple side if possible but more interested in doing it right!
