Newbie....Do I need a lightning to VGA adapter for Pioneer?

Hey all,

I'm not into car audio at all. I installed a Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS into my Prius but I didn't install the Lightning to VGA cable. I also have a iPhone 5. I haven't updated my firmware since I bought it (7/26/13) and read the following page: AVH Firmware Update | Pioneer Electronics USA. My question is if I update the firmware, will the AppRaido with nav work without the VGA cable or do I need to buy it?

From what I read on the page I don't need it, but on the firmware update is says I do. sorry for the dumb question.

Yes you do, AppRadio uses bluetooth to communicate, and the A/V adapter for data to the head unit, the lightning cable to adapter to charge the phone.
