as a rule of thumb, you want to have at least 1\2 the cone area of the drivers if there is going to be a port. this is not set in stone, but you also have to make sure that the reflex ports are the correct length to ensure a correct tune. if i had BBP6 or WINisd on this computer, i would plot the info and give you a general idea what you should do, but i dont.
so you will need to consult somone with some software and a few minutes to plug the info in the application.
in a nutshell, yes, ports will gain decibles at the sacrifice of a wider and smoother frequency band. since subbass is only ~20hz~80hz then you shouldnt really mind too much about the drop in frequency response. but you do want to make sure you will have the correct length (just cut some 4" pvc and stick it on the end to lengthen those ports).
