Hi guys, new here, and fairly new to the car audio scene. Here's my question:

I have a Kenwood 9103D amp, that is rated at 900RMSx1@2ohm.

I am looking for advice on subs. I listen to mostly rap, some rock, and some country(pretty much everything I guess //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ). I have always been mainly a SQ guy, but my buddies got some systems now and I kinda wanna show them up. What I'm looking for is something with good output, but still keeping some decent SQ. SQ/SPL ratio of about 50/50.

I am kinda stuck on Kicker subs because I can get a good deal on them locally. I guess the main thing is: I am wanting more SQ than my previous 15" L7, and more SPL than my 2-10" Concepts.

Out of these combos, what would be best for my listening prefs and my amp.

2-10 CVR's

2-12 CVR's

2-10 CVX's

1-12 CVX

1-15 CVX

Also, I would really appreciate for whichever setup you choose if sealed or ported would be best for me. I'm up for any other suggestions as well.

My front stage is Phoenix Golds RSD6.5 comps, and RSD6x9's in the back.

And if your wondering what I'm wanting to outperform, one is a single 15 MTX ported in a ***** am hatch, and the other is a Konaki 12 Ported in a Camaro hatch. The Konaki out-pounds the MTX fwiw...

PS-I have a trunk car, and a big trunk at that, and I'm not wanting to break any SPL records here... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Definitely want a cvx over the cvr especially if you want more sq than the l7. I would get the 15 CVX out of those choices

EDIT: And I would go ported, I currently have a single 12" CVX in a 2.25 box tuned to 33hz and it hits very nice, and doesn't sound like crap doing it.

You talk about SQ, SQL, and trying to out-perform other installs. Looks like you've got to narrow down what you want a little more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As for your choices, a single 15 CVX is what I'd choose. I heard they're pretty stout woofers, and in the right enclosure should do pretty well.

That's exactly why I'm on here asking advice... I can't make up my **** mind! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

So its pretty much given that you all think I should go with CVX's over CVR's. A problem I had with my 15 L7 was that the bass seemed too low for what I liked. It was probably my box tuned wrong for the sub. That lack of "higher" bass is really the only thing that scared me away from the ported 15, and towards my 2 sealed 10's.

I've been researching on here and other forums for literally weeks, and I've seen many people using single 15"/18" setups. Is it possible to get a good frequency range for daily driving out of a 15? And for the 15 CVX, sealed or ported, and tuned at what frequency?

advice... leave, you wont find it here.
haha, I've kind of noticed that about many posts like mine, but I tried to be as civilized as possible when asking my question, and not act like a 14 year old kid who says "I'll come beat your a$$" when he hears something he doesn't want to.

I appreciate anyone else putting in their $0.02 when it comes to their experiences and the CVR/CVX series of subs.

And $500 is a little more than I want to spend on a sub. But from what I've seen its one hell of hitter.

15" CVX or two 15" CVR's ported

If you buy a kicker, port it. They do okay sealed but Kickers like to be ported.

My imput, however, would be for one CVX 15 in the correct box. It will be plenty

What type of vehicle is it you have? Do the back seats fold down?

My car is a 2000 Monte SS, and yes the back seats fold completely down.

So the concensus seems to be the 15" CVX... So say the single 4ohm DVC 15CVX, with the VC's wired in parallel to give me a 2ohm load(right?), with my amp pushing about 900RMS, and a 3.5ft^3 box.

What and how should I tune the box to? I've built several boxes for my subs, and for friends subs, but this would be my first time building a ported box.

Any more help and input is greatly appreciated.

Nice car, I say tune to 34hz.. I have never ran kicker subs personally.. they seem a lil to common for me. I suggest AQ.. use the box creator on reaudio.com RE also makes good woofers, but I think some DD 1512's or AQ sd2s would treat you well on that power

Yea, I'm sure I could do better than kicker, but its really hard for me to pass the prices up I can get them for. I was thinking a 3.5 cu.ft box, and from what I've calculated, I would need a 6"dia x 14.5" long round port to make it 34hz? Does this sound right? If I do it I plan on using aeroports...

Here's a few pics of my car when it wasn't cold as hell out here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
