This is a good point overlooked. How can one expect Adire

to give you prompt service when they are very late

to the ballgame with their own drivers.

But on the other hand, we are just talking about one driver, the prototype based on an Adire Extremis carcass

which would make a prototype very easy to make, perhaps

a week if you are motivated to do one, not 3 fricking months.

It's obvious to me that Dan placed zero priority on this

project.

Being as it may, I didn't mean to shoot down Adire at all, really. Dan has made his replies to the other threads as well. Bad communication; quite possibly, bad business; without a doubt.

Regardless of Adire's past issues with delayed dates and what not, that is completely irrelevant. Business is business, like alot of people have said. You don't promise a delivery date and then continue to change it or constantly lie about it. Am I the only one that sees that?

What would happen if Alpine or Eclipse said they were going to release something and it took them forever to get it out, don't you think the dealers and customers would be sh*tty? Same idea here, just on a different scale.

I have a LOT of emails/PM's from people at SIN saying that it wasn't right etc and asking out our products

I don't think ology has been damaged at all by this... and I don't think adire has either

I just chaulk this up to another check on the last 12 mths for adire... I know this chile thing has been pressing.... and IMO it's wearing down customer loyalty... and this isn't a big deal.... it doesn't end ology... and it doesn't ruin our reputation

feandil if the design you are going with now is so much better/cheaper and you can do it in house, then why did you ever want to go with xbl2 and adire?

I just dopnt understand since if it is even the same output with a cheapoer production cost (even just the licensing fees) then why did you not order the parts and build yourself (also saving some moola)

It really wouldnt have saved to much money I do believe. It was more convenient to have Adire build the drivers since they already have their own buildhouse that is up and running.

It just sucks it didn't go through the way it was planned really. In all honesty it probably could have been handled better by both sides but it still doesnt change what happened.

I am not really tlaking about the builhouse section.

I am tlaking about how xbl2 was great and how he stated now it has no pros over the motor design he is going with now (underhung i think) and that it is just extra money to pay out.

Also if he can build the proto inhouse using what he states is a just as good or better topology then why not do it from the start.

This quote is from feandil on the carstereos.org forum. if it is the best and your design is so much better why go with xbl2 in the start.

still the best to this DAY is the old underhung... cheap, extremely light coils, extremly high BL and low driver mounting depth
our X-underhung only improves on that slightly giving you that much more mounting depth (it's in fact less motor depth that any type of motor in existance per given excursion)

I may be completely off base here, but it seems that the xbl^2 technology isn't that much more expensive, and it is already well established in the online car audio community. Brand recognition sells.

As to the greater issue here...I think Ology should probably have expected some delays as this is a common issue with creating something new. But, the bottom line is there should have been some more communication from Adire as far as why the delays were happening, in the least. When you promise something and don't come through, people get mad. It doesn't take much to figure that out. Just because one business deal/partner is worth less money than another doesn't mean you can shove them aside. If Adire doesn't have the capacity to handle all of the orders from its licensees, then they need to either gain the capacity to do so, or they need to scale down and only take orders from high margin/ high dollar deals.

My twisted take on the situation.

A public conversation took place where Feandil was researching motor design

and Dan joined the conversation.

Based on my logs;

September 2005

Someone asked Feandil;

"I would love to see you bring out a line of speakers. You have a very

interesting preference and I would love to see the results Adire or anyone else

could do to fit you. "

Feandil said;

"I would more than happily send danny's several thousand to partner on one speaker line... I think it would be fascinating.. even if I only broke even..."

Dan said;

Bottom line: if you think there's a market for it, go for it. Spec them out, get them built, and sell them. If there is such a market there, you could make a killing! Go for it! I'll provide all the design help you need. Want shorting rings? Full sleeves on the pole? We've done both - look at the Extremis and the CSS drivers. Counterwound coils? No problem either (the XLS doesn't use that - just shorting rings).

 

Or are you not so sure that you're not willing to pony up the cash?

I did it cause dan was supposedly the best and in october I had NO time to build speakers.... zero

XBL2 is fairly cheap I guess... just not that special... we didn't do it in house at first because then I wasn't associated with Ology audio and I never planned on running a deep business just offer a good driver for a good price

that's about it really... no more thought than that.... just wanted dan to create the design so I didn't have to and run the order for the same reason
