thylantyr recommened I post here as there might be some interest

Adire audio is currently building a prototype 6.5" midrange/midwoofer for me with dual copper faradays (VC is alum sleeved), 13mm one way, XBL^2, alum phase plug, DVC 4 ohm, extension to at least 10khz, 94db/w efficency, banana pulp/paper cone (keeping SQ as high as possible), and too many more details to mention

100w RMS... 250w max... max SPL from 100hz to 1khz is 114db... this is at RMS though so max is likely way higher

the only DVC 6.5" I know of

I will offer this for very cheap.... I can't give 100% on the 1 part cost details

As far as SQ... it is likely to be better than anything under $500 a driver for it's purposes (2-way, 3-way, 2-way with supertweeter etc)

However I will offer 2 different 2-way budget component options with this speaker

Component set with 12db/octave xovers with JL XR tweeters pair = $200

Component set 2-way with 18db/octave using the LPG silk domes (same as in the Adire koda) = $300

the site where you can order these... starting around 2 weeks from now is http://www.excelsiorloudspeakers.com

the prototype will be tested by many many people...

Mark K, Jim Griffin, Cheapboy/dingaling, the owner of Image dynamics, Jason Winslow, Mark Seaton, Danny richie from GR research, thylantyr and more

hopefully Adire will make this a great highly effficent (around 10db more output per watt than the Extremis... just from the specs), high excursion, ultra high SQ driver

and hide the alum phase plug? no way foo!

I'll have to get me a pair of these if/when they come out. High efficiency + dvc4 will be nice for the car, then I can throw the my extremii into HT duty.

I

DVC 4 would kick ***...but I hope they could take some power...because I'd have 250W on tap for 'em //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

What's the mounting depth like?

I forced the issue to Feandil to make sure the phase plug unscrews to allow

esoteric mods, ie.. different phase plug materials like copper for more heatsinking,

different plugs sizes to tweak response, even a screw on mount for a mini-tweeter would be nice with tilt mech. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

I will offer this for very cheap

I'm guessing 1/3 the cost of a Seas Excel W18 7" midwoofer. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

that would be incredibly awesome.

I read that thread while it was ensuing.

I was suprised at the end that Feandil conceded that he was a little overzealous in his design goals, and that they all couldn't be accomplished, atleast to the point he wanted them to be. Normally people stick to their guns no matter how wrong they are. A nobel act, if I do say so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

What's the mounting depth like?

depth is around 3.25"

you do realize that at 250w you will go deaf in under 1 min correct?

wtf is a phase plug?

in this case it serves 3 purposes

it lowers inductance that much further by acting like a larger faraday on the top plate (well sort of...)

if you don't know what faradays are... you may know what the Lambda apollo is...

this is a 6.5" lambda apollo motor... nearly part for part

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

the phase plug also is threaded and unscrews (again a costly feature... like EVERYTHING else in this driver)... it's also acts as a heat sink from the VC... as it IS solid alum

and lasting it improves HF response and disperstion... helps push on axis response past 10khz

I'm being completely serious

levels around 115-116db would be reached from 100hz-6khz

it's not like a subwoofer... you're ears can't take that at all....

1khz at 114db (or 128w of input) would make you go deaf in

not hearing damage... DEAF
