So today I finally found the deal I've been looking for on a slim ps2 for my glovebox //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Now I need an inverter. I know very little about inverters so I'd like your guys' input...

- What wattage do I need? I want it to comfortably be able to run the PS2 or charge a laptop and charge a phone at the same time (not the ps2 and laptop at same time, but if I did want to do that what wattage would I need?)

- What brands are good/bad? I see them in Frys electronics and stuff all the time; are these brands bad ideas or are they fine? Is there a best brand of inverters? Hoping to not spend too much...

- I currently have Knu 4 gauge power wire. It is powering a 150W amp for fronts and an essentially 400W amp for sub. Do I absolutely need to throw in 1/0?

My plan is to put the inverter under a seat, then run power from the glovebox to the inverter under the carpet.

Thank you very much //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Ohms law (Volts X Amps = Watts)

I think the ps2 slim is less than 100 watts. My dell laptop is 150 watts. Get yourself something in the 300 range and you should be fine.

Thanks man - Wow that's a lot less than I was anticipating. Brandwise any idea? Any to avoid?

and just... so it's said... I'll say that Ohm's law is V=IR and that's the Power law (or some guy's name I've forgotten)...

SORRY TO BE A DOUCHE!!!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif

just thought i'd clarify...

I've tried a lot of inverters, and my opinion is that some devices are picky on them. A PS3 for example needs a good amount of clean power. I've used Chinese knock off brand inverters that were rated over the requirements of the PS3 and it wouldn't turn on. Plugged in the coleman and it worked fine.

Another thing to consider... if you are using the 12V from the cig lighter then consider that most car manufactures put a limit of 5-10 amps. If the only thing you need to run is the PS2 then I think you should be fine with whatever you can find. If you're going to run multiple devices, consider a larger one running directly from the battery.

By the looks of the item... I'm sure it can run the PS2, but I highly doubt it can run 600 watts continuously as it's advertised.

I just finished taking Physics with Calc II and Electrical Circuits... you would have thought that I could at least remember the most basic of information. Ohh well.

Surepower, Coleman, Tripp-Lite, Cobra all make decent/good inverters for the money. I agree, stay away from the cheap junk. Read reviews before buying, Amazon is good for this.
