Need an amp for a JL sub...

Let me first say I have no clue about car audio, so if I say something stupid, well, that's to be expected...

I have a JL 12W3V2 D2 and need to find an amp to power it. I know I need a mono block amp and that's about it. My friend told me the JL 250/1 amp is perfect for this sub, but I'm having a hard time finding a new one in my price range (under 200). Is it ok to buy used amps??? Are there any other amps I should consider?

I've read some about how a lot of people have electrical problems when they install a sub and amp in their car. I'm trying to avoid that. Does it help to buy a lower wattage amp like the one above? And, will lower wattage amps give me enough power? I'm not looking to blow the whole block down or anything, just some nice thump. Thanks for any help.

I think any amp that has less than 1000watts of output should be fine, as far as electrical goes.

and the 250/1 is a good match, buying used a good seller with references is usually ok. If your weary of going that route tho, you can buy a JL e1200 brand new for about $150, puts out 200watts at 2ohms. it'll be a little under powered but should be ok.

You are right about buying from a reliable used seller, but you are WAAAAAAYY off telling this guy that his sub can handle any amp that pushes less than 1K w. If you have no idea what the heck you are talking about, then DON'T POST.

To the Original Poster:

That sub can hadle up to 400 watts RMS. Their is a guy selling a Phoenix Gold Xenon 400.1 in the classifieds. That amp would be a perfect solution for you. Also, you should be able to find a used 250/1 for less than $200 bucks easily. Look in the Classifieds section on this site, or use the search feature.

I did a quick search for the 250/1 : $150 shipped Better Quality + Better Voltage Options

I did another search for the PG X400.1: $100 shipped - Better Value

Thanks for the quick replies. I think I'm gonna go with the JL 250/1 used. I tried contacting that seller you mentioned a few days ago though and he hasn't responded yet, so he may have already sold it....any other opinions are welcome. Thanks again.

i think the guy meant in general when speaking about the 1000 w amp not telling him to get a 1000 w amp

read Sythlord's sentence again... where does it say that a 12w3v2 can handle 1000watts?

what he SAID was any audio setup that takes less than 1000watts should be okay for the car's electrical system

reading pwns you... IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO READ WELL THEN, DONT POST

i had a 15w3v2 and it was 500 watts urs that same? if so the sub i gave it 700 watts and it sounded amazing so id go btween 3oo watts and 600 a mono block amps proble work the best but slightly more expensive a 2 channel bridged will work also
