Need a new Amp for my 18 asap!

so as of now i have a cadence dakota...2400 max, (supposedly 1200 rms) amp on my fi q 18 (dual 2 ohm)... basically it does nothing for the sub at all. and the amp will get hot as eff and then shut off. to even get the amp to do anything i have to crank the gain near all the way up and the bass boosts up..otherwise..u can barely tell the sub is even back there. so now the shop i go to says i can trade it for a hifonics brutus 1200 or an autotek 4000 maxx (both maxxsonics)...he also sells other cadence, powerbass and such...so my question is...should i switch it for the brutus or the autotek? or is 1200 watts simply not enough for this sub? i have adequate power... 800 amp batcap right next to the amp. sooooo HELP PlEASE!

You have it wired to 1 ohm and not 4 ohm correct?

something tells me you have the wiring messed up. also, don't touch the bass boost, it's only hurting the sub
