Need a little help

Hey guys,

I'm kinda new to car audio stuff. Anyway, I drive a 1990 Toyota Camry (not exactly the flashiest of cars, but since I pretty much have to keep it for awhile, I figured I might as well soup it up), and am looking towards installing an audio system on it. After working for awhile, I've managed to get a budget of around $1500. I do, however, need the complete works - deck, amps, speakers, subwoofers, etc. I think I'm going to go with the Pioneer DEH-p7400 for a deck, but am kinda lost as far as everything else goes. How does the Image Dynamics ID Max 12 sound? It puts out 1000W rms. Would 2 of these be overkill? What's the difference between 2 ohms and 4 ohms? Also, what are the best speakers I could get using my budget, and what kind of amps should I use to power my subs and speakers? Any and all help is appreciated. Sorry for all these questions, but I am really new to this kind of stuff. Also, how much would it cost me to install all of this? Do places like Best Buy do it? Will they even do stuff like building boxes for the subwoofers?

Thanks,

Rob:)

1. I really don't think I can do it by myself, so if not Best Buy, where else could I go to get it installed, and how much would it cost?

2. What's wrong with the P7400?

5. What kind of speakers then?

Do any of your friends know how to do it? Installation prices no matter where you go are gonna be pretty steep. If one of your buddies knows how to do it, he could walk you through it. Plus its always better to install the system yourself, dont entrust your $$ to people who may or may not know what theyre doing.

You can always come on here and ask whatever questions you have, chances are someone will have the answer. We're always glad to help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

For $1500 - you can get a pretty badass system.

I'll give you some recommendations:

Head Unit - Pioneer, Alpine, maybe JVC

Interior Speakers - Infinity, MB Quart, CDT, Focal

Amps - Cadence, Soundstream, JBL, Crossfire, Zapco, Arc Audio

Subs - Elemental Designs, Adire Audio, Eclipse Alums, Crystal, Image Dynamics

Thanks for the help guys!

I still need more specifics though. It would take me forever to read through reviews of every type of amp, speaker, and sub, so I figured you guys could make it easier for me by suggesting which specific ones people tend to like.

Jmac, I'd love it if you could recommend an entire sound system to me because then I can do some meaningful research instead of just looking at pages and pages of car audio stuff that I know nothing about.

So instead of just makes, can I get models too? Keep my budget in mind though.

Also, the p7400 seems to get awesome reviews everywhere. If it really does have slow mp3 read times, what kind of deck would have a faster one but also be high quality in the other aspects?

Thanks again

Then I'll comment:)

They are awsome subs. Sound great, and get loud at the same time. Good power handling...feed them lots of it. I mean I dont know what else to say, they are great overall.

Would 2 be overkill? No way...

youre really living up to steves avatar lol

how do i know what size my speakers are?

and on the issue of subs, are 2 IDQ 12"s (700W rms) enough? can that rock the whole neighborhood? cuz one of my top priorities is having badass subs

and as far as the other IDQs go (1000w rms:eek: ), how much would an amp for that cost??//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Originally posted by Jmac A good $700 or more for a 2000 watt amp ... Plus you'd need a whole new electrical system for your car ... plus the IDMaxes cost a lot themselves .... I actually doubt you could do just the sub/amp/electrical system combo for less than $1500 ...
but the 2 IDQ 12"s will be enough right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

wait, the shivas are 650W rms? cuz the site says thats the max

also what are e12ks? sorry:(

and do you have AIM?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

holy crap

wouldnt 1300W rms blow the doors off my car and shatter the windows?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
