Any Suggestions for a Sealed (1~1.2 ft cub, 12" 4 ohm consuming only 300W from the JL 450 with 50/50 SQ/SPL consideration?
I agreeI have never seen anything seen sold at crutchfield that can be considered an "amazing" deal
i've been offered Free Shipping multiple times, and on top of that when you buy a headunit through them they'll give you the whole install kit for free.I have never seen anything seen sold at crutchfield that can be considered an "amazing" deal
The Dcon's are actually rated for 300, we know they can take more but.... And I know Boston Acoustics was already mentioned but I've had a G1 10" in the past and it was a good little sub. You can't find one bad review for Boston stuff. I'll be buying a 15" G2 next week for 70 shipped. Now that's a steal....I guess 300W is too little for any of the favorites here (Obsidian, Sundown, D-Con, etc....)?
With a $400 budget, is there a 12" + Amp combo that is a feasible step up from my current amp and whatever 12" setup?
Get the Boston sub, they have lightweight moving masses which gives them excellent efficiency on low power and they sound great. I've been temporarily running 2 G1 12s on 900rms for about 2 months and they take the power, sound great and get fairly loud, I used to run a pair of the G5 12s on 1400rms and they had excellent sq and got even louder. They work good in sealed boxes, but really come alive in ported boxes. Boston subs ftw!
I am partial to aero ports, or just round ports in general because they take up less space and are much easier to calculate tuning, you basically build a sealed box making sure you have added volume for the port and sub displacement, as well as displacement from bracing and 45s and you punch out an extra hole for the port.
Here's the box I built for a local guy who bought one of my G5s, it is 2 cu/ft tuned at 30hz with 2 3inch aeros, outer dimensions are 24 wide 14 high and 16 deep

bull crap. a ported box would sound way better and do a sub up port back box. That looks amazing. I've been in touch with Pro-Rabbit's company (Or Dustin from DC Creation) and they have advised me to go with a sealed enclosure because this sub will be placed in the "open" trunk area of my mini van. I was told that with an open area application like mine will have "no area for the port to load off of" Thus, a ported enclosure would sound no different from a sealed one. I would imagine seal enclosure to not only cost less but also occupy less space. So looks like I will end up with a sealed enclosure after all.
i have no idea what they would gain out of it, but im telling you that a ported vs sealed the ported will be better. i had 2 12 icons in a minivan in a sealed box and ya it got loud but not low, so i got a ported box tuned to 34hz ish and WOOOOOW it was stupid how much lower and louder it was. didnt change amps just boxes.Oh no, a conflicting opinion....Hi IAD-Zak, do you know what they would have to gain by suggesting a sealed box instead of a more expensive ported box?
