My First System! Please Critique!

Hello,

My friend works at a popular electronics store and is getting me a discount on my first car audio system. Any critic is welcome because I don't know alot. I drive a 2007 STi and mainly listen to Techno, Dance, and Rock.

Head Unit: Sony XAV70BT

MEX-BT5700U | Xplōd™ Bluetooth® CD Receiver | Sony | Sony Style USA

Amp for Speakers: MTX JH404

Car Audio Amplifiers - JackHammer JH404 | MTX Audio

Front Speakers: Polk MM6501

Polk Audio - Mobile Monitor Series - Mobile / Marie Speakers

Rear Speakers: Polk db401

Polk Audio - db Series - Mobile / Marie Speakers

Amp for Sub: MTX JH600

Car Audio Amplifiers - JackHammer JH600 | MTX Audio

Sub: db1212

Polk Audio - db Series - Mobile / Marie Subwoofers

There is also some items on my quote like a 8-gauge wiring kit and some Monster cables. Are these safe for the wattage?

Sorry, this is a little off topic, I'm really not that knowledgeable in this stuff either but lucky you with that 07 STi, wish i could afford that. I'm still riding in my 00 subaru outback, still a subaru though and i love it.

How much are you paying for all of that? You could more than likely do better for cheaper by shopping around on the internet. Personally i would want to put much better gear in such a nice car. Give a budget and people here should be able to send you in a better direction.

You need at least 4 guage(or better yet 1/0 guage) wiring,a fuse holder, and some distribution blocks for your ground and power wires.

Invest in some Dynamat,at least for where you install the door speakers and rear deck speakers, and in the trunk. The quiter your car is,the louder the system sounds.A piece on the back of your tag, will prevent some annoying vibrations. Also do a big three upgrade, try to run your power wires down one side of the car and your audio connections down the other side. What kind of enclosure is the Polk 12" in? It should sound, okay.

Dynamat blows, 1/0 isnt need for 1000 watts, 4 gauge is plenty, big 3 wont be needed either.

Now to the OP's critique. Front components are awesome, sub is ok. Everything else is meh. Id definitely go with a better headunit.

1/0 would be overkill for 800 watts, and he does not need to do the big 3 in an sti for 800watts. im runnin well over 2kw in a v6 accord with no voltage problems at all and no big 3

Terrible head unit, terrible choice in sub and amp for sub. Polk is ok for highs but for the lows they suck ass..

Definately go for some less shitty equipment. Check in the classifieds for some better cheddar.

Thanks for the input everyone!

With installation, warranty, and tax this is about a $2,000 system. After the discount I'm looking at $1,300-$1,500. That's a pretty sick discount WITH a 2-year warranty.

Why is the sony head bad? That is litteraly the top-of-the-line Sony Bluetooth head unit. Should I go double-DIN?

Also, what is the "big 3"?

The big 3 is an electrical upgrade under your hood, 'beefing' up the stock wiring to allow for higher current draw/flow from higher end systems.

Gewghul et.

It may be top of the line for sony, but the consensus is that Sony makes **** car audio equipment...

u should hang around here for a few weeks look at what others are using watch some videos but dont live or die by the videos. u do need everything so its gona take some time to put it all together. im sure the deal there giving u sounds nice but its no deal for you lol. do u need help with the instal? i would get the speakers threw your friend but the radio, sub and amps should b of another company. u can get alot for 1200-1500

honestly, im gonna say there is not a **** thing wrong with the Sony deck. its has 3 outputs sub control and bt built. i sell and install Sony decks all day. everyone on here wants or has spl type installs but for a daily driver you will be happy with that deck. if you want a ddin it will cost a lot more. i am not a fan of buying used equipment, or using online retailers if you are not gonna install it your self and you want a warranty.

where are you gonna buy this stuff at?
