My engine build

op: seriously i would have just slapped ona turbo they are mad cheap for your cars. and if i did an engine build it would be for boost vs. na. but i'm sure you're learning and having a godo time at it...any plans to dyno after you have it all back in? and again what compression are you going to be running and what will you rev to?

 
My compression is going to be 12:1 with those pistons. I know turbo in the long run is going to obviously put out more power, but I wanted to go NA. With the short geared ****** and pistons, I'll beat turboed ls engines no problem until my gears max out.

I disagree though with saying they're not good motors. It all deals with someone's preferences. With money, almost all engines can be built to be quick.

I'll be revving to around 8500k until I get some cams that will make power at higher RPM's. When I get it tuned, they'll dyno it for me and I'm planning on having the engine back in next weekend if things go right.

your either on some good drugs or their spoon feeding you the $h!t. their is no way that you could beat a decently built turbo'd LS motor in a civic. at 12:1 and a short geared ****** you may make it into the high 12s, probably not. their is no way that with just 12:1 compression, high reving cams, and a short geared ****** that you're gonna make over 300 hp. you're gonna need a fully redone cylinder head with all titanium parts, different intake manifold, oil pump to handle RPMs that high, carbon fiber body, light weight wheels, LSD, no interior, etc... man their is just too much stuff to get your setup to go fast much less get the rollers on the dyno to turn a 300 plus number. with your current setup i say you may make it to the 250 mark but i highly doubt it.

we aren't saying that the B18 isn't a good motor just your method of "go fast" isn't going to make the car go fast.

it doesn't. it's just showing things that needed to go faster on that motor. it mainly has to do with rotating mass. in order for that motor to really "go fast", not only will that motor need to have some decent HP numbers but also drastic weight reductions.

Not necessarily. Its all motor, ***** and traction. Less weight always help but its not necessary to go fast.

Oh I doubt it but I didn't really follow what he was putting in it. 300hp N/A out of a 4 cylinder is a lot of work.

 
Well of course but I was just pointing out that those specific things have nothing to do with power. Instead of commenting on what he says why not just encourage him to finish it instead of being negative about it. Who the **** cares if it has 300 HP or not. He's obviously having fun and enjoying himself. My V-8 might not even make 300 HP for all I know, I haven't even dynoed it.

 
I was saying it'll beat stock LS Turbos, not semi-built ones. I upgraded the oil pump as well with the water pump. LS Turbos don't make 300 hp stock. It'd make around 230-250 safely with the stock motor. I'm pretty sure a shorter geared 190-210hp would beat an ls turbo.

I don't really care if it won't beat one though and I'm wrong. I can always upgrade later too.

I don't expect it to reach 300. It'll be in the 190-210 range. I'd be very happy with 190, but if it did get around 210, I wouldn't be too surprised. These motor builds are known to vary a lot since there are so many variants you can do.
