Scratched Headlight Lense. Anyway to fix? *PIC*

My drivers side headlight has fogged up ever since my accident. SO Ive been on the hunt ever now and then when I remember to type it in on eGay.

Dealership wanted $1200 so that was not an option. I found this used one that is scratched to shit for basically free + shipping

Theres some deep scratches on the top of the lense, and some minor ones everywhere else. I dont know how to repair a clear lense and have it remain clear after repair.

Only solution Ive thought of so far is to sand it smooth then tint them yellow or tint black like my Honda, but Id prefer to keep them white at this point

Thanks for any tips

from a different forum and thread about scratched headlights:

I took Sinhumane's advice and worked my way up in the grits (800, 1000, 1200, 1500) and then polished it with some Meguire's stage 7 show car wax. Looks just as clear as my clear corners now, freakin awesome!
Thanks

yea go get some wetsand 800,1200, 1500,2000 sand them, then use some good compound and buff it. if you lived close by id do it for ya............. use compound not wax

no need for heat just start with a 320 grit a work up to 2000 wet. Then go to a shop or barrow a buffer and use some buffing compound and it should be good.. I have seen this done many times and my cousin has even done it at his bodshop. The deepest scratches may be hard to remove completly but you can get it looking pretty decent still.

Well yeah Im not looking for a show finish, just better than it is so the scratches arent so noticeable.

I already have tons of wetsanding paper, but Im not so great with rubbing compound and polishing compound.

I have a buffer to I think brand new

Let me go find the crap in the garage and snap a pic and you guys can tell me if its good stuff or not. I think its just generic rubbing compound and polish

SWEET! Ive got everything i need I think, I found a buffer, but its slow speed, maybe like 300rpm, that ok? and the only pads I had left for it to apply the compounds with was like terry cloth, that will work?

The rubbing and polishing compound were made by turtle wax. Dont know if they are what you guys are talking about

So basically I could wetsanding with like 600 and 1000. Then just have at it for a while with rubbing compund, clean that off, then go at with with polishing compound?

Or should I just do polishing compound? I dont know if the rubbing compound will embed its red clay into the scratches making them even more noticeable.....

It has the consistency of pretty hard clay, while the polishing is like toothpaste

meguiars makes some stuff called PLAST- X it works wonders to get any of the minor scrathes or hazing that will remain after sanding and it also works for dvd's , cd's ect. anything plastic and it works by hand with a simple cloth. we use it to get the road haze and cloudiness out of headlight lenses ect...
