Hey, I am probably going to buy this stuff tomorrow unless someone tells me I should change my setup.

Subs; 2 12" alpine type r 2ohm (should I go with 4ohm)

Amp; MRP-M1000 alpine amp

Box; Bass Slammer (http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=20154)

**Should I go with a custom box instead made by SPY?**

Headunit:Alpine CDE-9874

Sound Dampener; Dynamat for trunk only

Questions: Will I need to buy a cap? And what should I upgrade in my car? This is my first system.

I dont think that amp is .5 ohm stable. yes you should get custom box from spy. No cap, I think your electrical will be fine ~1000watts.

Man I remember those days when I thought I needed a cap. lol. Dont worry about the cap. Get at least 4awg power and ground wire, Definately get a box built by spy, get the DVC 4ohm version of the type Rs so you can run the amp at 1ohm. What are you looking for? Loud low bass or high end bass? Those type Rs are really spl oriented so u would wat a custom box that is tuned pretty high. Thats a goodstarting setup i think you willbe pleased //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Can someone explain w/ detail what the big 3 is? I understand now that I should get the 4ohm version and a custom box.

I would recommend sticking with the 2 ohm subs. That amp doesn't appear to be 1 ohm steady (your choices with two 4 ohm subs is 1 ohm or 4 ohms and your choices for two 2 ohm subs is .5 ohms or 2 ohms).
No need for a capacitor. The big three is engine-to-chassis, alternator-to-battery positive, and battery-to-chassis ground. http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~73496~PN~1
He is rght that amp does 1000watts rms at 2ohm, so you need to get he dual 2ohm vcs and run them in series btwn the vcs and then parallel from each other to the amp.

Here is a graph:

Go with th 2ohm wiring ceofig obviously. lol are you going to be putting in all in yourself? Or are you payin someone else?

Ahh didnt notice that power is @ 2ohms.. get the 2ohm subs

So I should stick with 2 ohm ones so I can power both sub 2 ohms w/ 500 watts each right?

Id sit down and figure out exactly what all you will be installing for amperage consumption and add another 10-15% amperage useage on top of that...
