more output and less rattle

My intrepid has a steel c-pillar wall the divides the trunk from the cabin. The steel wall does have some openings in it but it's all covered by some sound deadening/carpet/felt type material. Of course the upper part of the back seat sits right up against it too.

The back seat has a fold out arm rest, but it doesn't have that opening into the trunk like some cars do. I was wondering if cutting a hole in that arm rest back part and into the c-pillar steel wall will increase output into the cabin and also reduce air pressure buildup in the trunk?

Now in my car, by chance, the c-pillar wall just so happens to have a hole right where the arm rest back pad is. But it is covered by that sticky sound deadening material and back pad. I could just cut a hole into the deadening material and remove the back pad on the back seat but would it produce anymore output over the empty 6x9 holes on the rear deck?

When I have my rear armrest down with armrest door open there is a notable difference in loudness...but not much difference in vibration. Your gonna have to trust your gut on that decision because want to cut the fabric there's no turning back.

I went ahead and did it anyway.

There is no obvious difference.......except that the kick drums in my music are more noticeable and detailed. It's like before they were muffled.

I had to razor cut the back pad of the seat where the arm rest would fold up against but it's easily fixable. Nothing super permanent was done.

I would figure the less objects and materials separate the trunk from the cabin, the better the sound waves would enter the cabin and possibly reduce cancellation , etc....

I've heard systems in cars where the seats fold down, exposing the trunk, and the difference is night and day compared to my car.

i'm thinking about sealing the trunk now, but without removing the steel wall. I figure because that steel wall has such large openings in it, I can flip the subs to face the cabin and seal the edges and deck. Then I can put a 2x4 rig behind the subs to keep them from sliding back.

But how would I go about sealing the subs from the trunk? Can I uses many rags all around the sub box? What about the rear deck? I can seal off the 6x9 holes but there's still lots of little crevices.
