Loud Type R in DBDRAG Setup???

Wow, that was fast, Type-R Ridarz to the rescue.
and your place in this thread is what?

hate all you want... just come see me in the lanes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If ya can't get a type R loud - you need to try a different box... I've done it over and over... and over... and over //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've tried everything. Every sizes for sealed from 0.75 - 3.0 cf sealed. Ported in all sizes and all tuning frequencies...anywhere from 1.5 - 4.0 tuned to 35 hz. 90% of my customers love low bass. And for some odd reason...when I swap them out for RE SE's or even JL w3's...them seem to like it a whole lot more. I had a guy using a pair of 12's Type R in his mustang with a 4.0 cf box tuned to 35 hz on a pair powered by a RE 12.1 amplifier. He came back a week later...subs are burnt. Swapped it out for a brand new pair...and the same thing happened. Swapped it out for a pair of SE's and he was fine. He already has an upgraded battery and alternator...no clipping. And this is just one of many many cases that I've tried the type R's with. Believe me...I'm not bias towards any company especially since we're an Alpine dealer and would want nothing more than to see the Alpines to perform well. Also...I've built over 300 boxes in my lifetime and I'm sure it's not the boxes. Maybe I just have better luck with different subs?

Something definitely not setup properly if he's smoking woofers... major clipping - something out of the ordinary. The 12 R's only have a 2" coil... but have a superb cooling system... I'd venture to say the SE's are holding up better solely because of the better thermal handling under heavy clipping of the 3" coil... other than that... from the tests here, R's walk the SE's in every aspect except the above.

Something else noteworthy... 35hz is too high of a tune in that size box for an R.. I'd expect the SE's to extend lower, much more forgiving woofers.

You've done testing, I've done testng... 2 different results. How, I'm not sure.

O yeah, and for the record. I love how yall are questioning Tuan's perception of power and tuning of the Type-Argh.
I know what you mean. I'm only doing a 154+ in DBDRAG Street A...but I guess it doesn't matter...since it doesn't count in MECA? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Heard the Xs and Rs in two ported box and one sealed box. Ported x seemed louder to me and sounded a shit ton better, in both boxes. Sealed, they both suxed balls imo. Had time to fok with the Xs a lot more though, just kinda threw the Rs in for a lil bit and took back out.

Thats kewl //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I did a 153.3 @ 36hz @ the headrest with 2 12's at meca finals last year. 2500d @ 1 ohm.

I guess it doesnt count, since its not dbdrag //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

They were all tuned to 35 and anywhere from 1.5-4 cubes. The Rs tuned to 35, wont work in any box between 1.5 cube and 4 cubes?

I'll try another box then. What would you recommend...say a single 10" Type R. 500 watts RMS. Tuning frequency 33 hz. What box size would you recommend?

The X's... just like hte SE's noted above... will have much better extension and low end performance in a box tuned to 35.

It obvously depends on application... but its just a generalization.

That being said... the X's do sound awesome //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Okie. I'll give it a try again. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Something noteworthy... the 15 is really the "spl" driver of the bunch... larger coil, WAY more power handling... both mechanically and thermally... and it'll tolerate a higher note best of the bunch. The 15 is still a low note monster, though.

What kind of power?
R's are low note woofers. /story

So for MOST db drag setups, they won't work well at all. They can take a pretty decent amount of power (I burp my 10" on a clamped 1500 RMS, and the larger sizes can take more than that), but that's also at a fairly low note, 44 hz.

They would hold their own in bassrace, but as for straight SPL in db drag, they wouldn't fair very well. Depending on the vehicle anyways.

The one thing to remember here is a cost-performance ratio. While they are not the best SPL subs out there, they really cannot be beat for the money.
this guy tommyk knows i used a pair and so do a couple of others i burp at 48 hertz and they did ok in my street a setup. of two memphis 4kw's strapped at .9 only lasted one burp but oh well
