Looking to build low budget gaming computer...need assisstance!

Ok..so Ive become addicted to QuakeLive(aka Quake 3). I used to play this game years ago...and Ive started to play again but my computer sucks.

I need help building a low budget desktop.

Current setup:

Shuttle AK31v3.1

AMD Athlon XP1600(1.4ghz)

Kingston PC2100 1gb RAM

Radeon 8500

This game is literally the ONLY thing the desktop will be used for, so Im looking to do it fairly inexpensive.

Let me know what you guys can come up with.

its all about how much u wanna spend. i see 1 gig ram is weak, but if thats ur budget then thats ur budget

post a budget and ill see what i would do.

or u can check out tomshardware.com they have a budget 500 computer build, downsize everything like video card, power supply, get cheapo case, see if u can get it cheap enough

i built a $500 computer that played all the new video games for 4-5 years, then i finally needed to upgrade the video card so i built a new one

3-D Hardware Accelerator with full OpenGL® support

Pentium® 233 Mhz MMX®processor with 8 MB Video Card

Or Pentium II 266 Mhz processor with 4 MB Video Card

Or AMD® 350 Mhz K6®-2 processor with 4 MB Video Card

64 MB RAM

Those are the requirements for Quake 3. Granted this is a server side game and much more of a memory hog, but I think a 2+ ghz machine would do it with 2gb of ram and a decent video card. As you can see above...this isnt FarCry or anything....but it's not Mario Brothers either. My .02$ Don't cheap out on case/power supply. I have tried it in the past and it sucks when they fail, and the really cheap ones have for me every time.
