my friend is looking to get a component set for his 2004 ford f-150. he's looking to spend no more than 300 for a good set. they will be ran in a passive set up. they will be ran off of a kicker zx350.4, possibly bridged, which is 175rms x 2 @ 4 ohms, if not then 60rms x 4 @ 4 ohms.

so something that will be able to sound good off of his amp. he's upgrading from his polk audio 5x7s and i said i may be able to find him something good

so whats the best for the price, around 300$?

also, must be 5 1/4" components because the universal 6x8 adapter only works for 5 1/4 speakers, anything bigger needs to be custom installed into the kick panel, which i dont really want to do unless i can get someone to make one on here, with a built in mount for the tweeter

can you fit 6.5s with a mdf baffle?
may be able to, im not 100% sure on the stock speaker size, either is he (he isnt smart with these things) im sure if i had a mount custom made from someone here to fit it it would work

edit:

they are 5x7

I have pioneer premier ts c720prs components in my 07 F150 (same body style). The midbass shows to be 6 3/4, but is actually more of 6.5. These sound amazing running off 80rms. It comes with a 6x8(5x7) adapter for the doors. In my opinion the adapter is crap plastic so I made my own MDF adapters. Mike465 on here sells and makes adapters for really cheap and does good work. Like I said, I absolutely love these components. The most impressive thing is the midbass. I have them crossed on my amp at 60 hz and I can really feel these things kick me in the chest. I deadend the hell out of my doors and covered that gaping hole on the door.

Clarions SKU series comps. $90 through crutchfield. Comes w/a 5x7 adaptor. I love the under ratde sound of Clarions top tier line.
BTW: 175 x 2 = passive, 60 x 4 = active.
thing about the adapter, its a 6x8 adapter and id like to mount the tweeter in the adapter so i dont have to cut a hole in his car somewhere

6x8 and 5x7 are pretty much the same thing. The f150's have a stock location for you to put the tweeters up high in the doors. If you just wanted the tweeter right beside the mid, you could make a baffle and put them side by side. But I would put the tweeter in the stock location

oh so there is a stock location? i asked him and he said he didnt know, hes very illiterate when it comes to this stuff.. he once asked me how many ohms i can push to a speaker without blowing them
