Looking for cleaner sound.

I recently purchased a 2002 F-150, Crew Cab, 4x4. The system is the stock cassete with 6-disc Cd changer. I'm not sure if there are 4 or 6 speakers in the cab. I don't want to drop a boat load of money into this sound system. I say boat load because a couple years back, I took my 2000 Maxum 21ft open bow in for A LITTLE nicer system. Well about $3200.00 later, I had a system that would rock the lake!!! If possible, I'd like to keep the stock unti. I was wondering if simply replacing the speakers would make a difference? I have no idea on the power of the stock system, but I'm sure it's very basic. I don't crank my music.... unless it's a good song or maybe one of my favorite CD's. How would I tell if the stock unit has a sub output?

If you were in my shoes and had $300.00, what would you do? What speakers will replace the existing speakers with no modifictions? Please take in account the $300.00 needs to include installation. Oh, I guess I should state my current issue. The system is easily distorted. I can only turn to about 1/4 volume. I'm not looking to win any audio contests, simply would like a better more crisp sound without lots of BLING BLING. Thank you!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif

you can get new speakers, and power them off the stock hu. as for fitament, if you could, it'd be helpful to know your stock sizes. you could get replacements for them for under your budget, and it'd sound a lot better than the cheap stock speakers. not too sure if you could get the speakers and install for that, but i definantly know you could find something that would be an improvement over stock. and as for the install, you could save a lot of money by DIY'ing the install. its a simple process, and you could easily find a step by step DIY on the net.

Okay, looks like you've got 6x8 speakers in the front and in the back.

Get a set of CDT CL 5x spears (49.99) and a USX2100 US accoustics amp (99.99) from thezeb.com. Make some mdf baffles so the speakers fit in to the stock hole. I'm not sure on the logistics but there is a way to convert a factory deck to have rca outs, use those and you should get a much better sound for about $150.

as far as converting the stock hu to rca's, if your amp has high level inputs, you won't have to do anything but use one of the sets of speaker wires to tap into. if it has low level inputs only, you'll need a low-level converter, which will convert the signal (high level) from your speaker wire to low level, in the form of rca outs to go to your amp.

also, infinity speakers run pretty good off of deck power. you could get a couple of sets of their co-ax or tri-ax 6X8's assuming that that is the stock size for under your listed budget. they are real clean and crisp for a fairly cheap price.

Isn't there a 6x8 speaker out there? I would like to keep everything as stock as possible. I have no idea what baffles are and why I'd need these to make the 5" speakers fit. I'd like to start off with a good quality set of speakers and go from there. Again, what type of speakers should I get if I decide to not go with a sub. I think someone mentioned coax or cone? I'm not a stereo buff so I don't know the ends and outs.

components has the mid eg 5" speaker with a seperate tweeter and crossover box to cut off frequencies, and coax is the 5" speakers with the additional smaller speaker in the middle of it (the tweeter)
