it was an HDC 15 tuned to 33 hz and i have heard 2 12 cvr's sealed.so you've tested 12 inch aq's ported against 15 inch cvr's sealed and the aq's got lower?
it was an HDC 15 tuned to 33 hz i believe and 2 12 cvr's.so you've tested 12 inch aq's ported against 15 inch cvr's sealed and the aq's got lower?
WRONG.
His one amp would get him MUCH louder with a million of them than with one of them. He wouldn't be pushing any of them to their full potential, but simply adding more cone area is already going to give you more output even at the same total system power. 3dB for every time he doubles the amount with the total power kept equal. 6dB higher maximum output capability if he doubles up on his amps.
i never said i did, read my posts, i'm telling him my thought on his question, i'm not telling him to go spend money elsewhere when i don't have experience with a set up similar to his. I have experience with cvr's and know they are no slouch so i told the OP to get a bigger amp cause i doubt two 12's ported will get louder and lower, i'm not going to tell the OP to go spend money on something without having a similar set up as his. Thats my point, guys giving advice when they have no experience with all the products mentioned. Sex4ears, one 15 aq vs two 12 cvr's, and the 15 played lower, how big was the box the cvr's were in? how much power was the aq 15 getting and how much power was the cvr's getting? I know of a couple guys who got really good numbers with cvr's in a daily box tuned to 36hz hitting 147+ with two 15's in 6 cubes and 1500 watts. I do run a kicker amp but i am in no way a kicker fan boy i just know from experience cvr's can get **** loud. Pretty **** loud for kicker mid level subshave you?
can you honestly say you have experience with both of these setups?
or are you one of the guys that were around with kicker was king and cant accept that they arnt top dog anymore?
Not sure how big the box was. He was giving the AQ roughly 1k. The cvr's were getting about 450 eachi never said i did, read my posts, i'm telling him my thought on his question, i'm not telling him to go spend money elsewhere when i don't have experience with a set up similar to his. Agreed. Doesn't really work with home audio neither. It's theory.that 3db rule is a myth. it comes from home audio, and the way it actually works is double power and cone area to gain 3db. please dont spout misconceptions.
and as far as just adding cone area, i hate to break it to you but your going to hit a wall rather quickly with that thought. cone area is not the only factor when moving air, the excursion is just as important, and if the subs are only moving 1/8th of an inch then your not going to move much air.
op. if you want to go with a single sub, either of the ones you mentioned will fit the bill perfectly. you could also look into the IA death penalty, or the DC lvl 4 XL.
thats not my reasoning, you guys just aren't giving the cvr the respect that it deserves thats all. I heard cvr 15's in a sealed box and they played almost as low as my SI mag's in a sealed box. Also my 15 inch Si mag's played lower in a 5.2 cf sealed box(smaller than recommended) than my 15 inch Si mag's in a ported box tuned to 30 hz and 7cf. Just showing you guys that sealed generally plays lower than ported boxes. Also if that is your logic, why wouldn't you help the OP design a better box for his subs cause i do agree that install is everything and a box can make or break a subwoofers performance, but since the OP doesn't have room for two 15 ported i can see why some may suggest one 15 ported but that doesn't mean it will get louder and lower than what he has now and thats my point. I do agree the aq is a better built sub for overall spl but its still all in the install.T-money, just because their is more cone area does not mean that setup is going to be louder period.
It matters on the install.
I can throw an 18 xcon in a P.O.S prefab and have a 15 xcon in a custom enclosure and have the 15 out perform the 18.
