Hey all. I want to spend $400 or less (so fairly budget) on a new system. It's not for competitions or anything but just daily personal use.

The car this will be housed in is a 2001 Ford Escort ZX2, and will be in the trunk.

I plan on getting two 12" subs and an amp that matches them, as well as a box for them.

I also would like a new HU as well.

Do you guys think you could help me come up with some equipment in my price range to get all of this stuff? It'd be highly appreciated, thanks.

Two decent 12" subs will likely eat up well over half of a $400 budget.....hell, a good HU would prolly be $300+

Maybe if you go with all used equip, and build the enclosure yourself, but still doubtful. And you're gonna be looking at prolly having a shit system when you're done, anyway.

Not trying to be insulting, this is just my opinion.

Better off to save for a bit longer, or to buy quality stuff one component at a time...

agreed. I would suggest that for now you can invest in a decent head unit, a small amp, and some comps and hopefully you can come at just that $400 mark before installation. Then save up for your subs

You can do what you want but I could probably build and ship you an enclosure for around $100. Depending on where you're located and how complex you want the box. PM with specs if interested.

$400, its going to hard to get a good setup at that, but just save some cash. Don't take shortcuts on important things, I've seen some people do that and its just not worth it. Save some dough //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

you can probably go to the websites and find these:

sub from vminnovations either SPL SP3 or power acoustik P3 cost $150 for a pair

amp MB-Quart-ONX1.1000D from sonicelectronix $160

sub box $55.99 from brightstar audio

head unit $40, brand dual, no cd player but has an sdcard which will take up to 32gb look in best buy outlet

with this build your total is $406.00

hope this helps

They pretty much gave you the best advice. If you're not willing to listen, there's nothing else that can be done.
I'm not sure what you mean by this post, but I take it as very offensive. I never said I will not and am not listening to the above posters. I addressed my response to them, and asked for additional input as in "Is there any other advice to throw into the mix?". Not, "I need more info because the stuff I have is null." So please, I don't understand where your tone is coming from.

But thank you naughtyca, I'll look into that stuff.

In car audio, what you pay for is what you get. If you're not a huge bass head, maybe a smaller system will suit your needs for $400. But if you're like the majority of the people on this site, a $400 system is going to leave you on your knees begging for more.

Do you prefer sound quality (SQ) over loudness (SPL) or the other way around? 50/50?

If you want, you can probably only purchase 1 12 and make it sound very good. It just depends on your preferences.

For sub, I recommend going true infinite baffle. You get to keep just about all of your trunk space AND sound great doing it (if you do it right.)...
