Looking for 6.5 midbasses in dual 2ohm or single 1ohm load....any exist?

Instead of trying to find a 1ohm midbass...why don't you look for those impedance matching autoformers like a Stinger Accumatch? Those things are kinda cool and should be easier to find than DVC 2ohm midbass drivers.
links? unfamiliar with these

meh

plus its prolly impossible to find one of those things they are old and short lived
Some amps absolutely hated those things. They'd either smoke, limit power, or go into protection. Tougher amps liked them...a lot. Even something as flimsy as a Boston GT-22 absolutely got down on that thing. I see 'em pop up on eBay pretty often. I've seen them more often than 1ohm mids. The only 1ohm mids I can think of would be some paper cone OEM premium sound speakers. I actually have a couple laying around...

Those Accumatches don't make much sense today as power is so cheap. But in this application, I'd recommend one so long as the amp isn't a wimp...or you can buy my old Bose speakers that are 1 ohm.

(Orion HCCA mids are 2ohm and sound f'n awesome BTW...and you can find those on ebay right now)

amp would be a ppi art ax606.2 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif not very wimpy....

if i didnt go with the accumatch....how about buildig midbasses? are those harder to make sound great than rebuilding subs? i imagine since we're dealing wih a much lower distortion level it'd be harder than with subs.

The accumatches were a gimmick, which is why they were short lived. The power increase they garnered from an amp was mostly wasted in the form of heat. The speaker is a specific impedance, which means it will basically pull a certain amount of power, no matter what you wire in between it and the amplifier.

I posted a story on DIYMA about those old PPIs. You're not Mexican are you (search for that post...it's a crazy story)

Anyways, an accumatch will smoke those. I would not recommend Accumatches on regulated amps and even some unregulated. An old Fosgate or HCCA? Different story...

Anyways, here's the link for the Orion mids; Orion HCCA6 woofers Brand New!!! Warranty ads a/d/s/ | eBay

I have a/d/s mids from the same seller. Those are 2ohm woofers and are pretty much the same thing as the a/d/s woofer except the impedance. I'll vouch for these having more midbass than Focals, Dyns, and pretty much anything short of a dedicated subwoofer. I have 5.25" a/d/s mids that out performed Focal K2P's back in the day - I a-b tested them in my car and on a soundboard...no comparison. Those mids are ugly, but for $125 they're pretty killer.

As far as rebuilding a 6" mid...I'm sure it's possible but I wouldn't bother. Why do you need that low of an impedance? Were you thinking of running a bunch in series b/c if you were, 16ohm raw drivers have become more popular as vintage tube enthusiasts really like them.

What's your system as-is and what are your goals?

Im also curious why a 1ohm impedance is necessary for a front stage driver, especially midbass. At some point you simply should go to an array of speakers, as it provides some benefits over trying to pump a lot of wattage through a single driver.

the back two channels of the ax606.2 do 200w @ 1ohm for my midbasses. i had my ax400 bridged (200w x2 @ 4ohms bridged) but the input get summed and the midbasses are mono.....it woul dbe nice ot have the same power, but with stereo seperation....if i can find speakers that can give me the desired imp.

so i'll forget abou the accumatch and building a new woofer....

i just wish i could find a dual 2ohm halfway decent set of 6.5's....

they'd be on 80hz to 500hz in a small sealed pods...

you run midbass 80Hz-500Hz?

i run midbass 50Hz - 160Hz, and i use a shallow slope for the HPF to get as much low end information up front to keep bass in my soundstage. works great. requires a helluva good install though.

many subwoofers have too much inductance to be much good over 200Hz. It's a case-by-case basis.

that CDT woofer seems like it may work for you (provided i has the freq. response you want).
