Looking at new speakers, but not wanting to go all out.

yea 4x6 comps are too small to make midbass, and 5.25 is a bit small also, are you sure they HAVE to be that size? I put 6.5 where I had 6x9's before you mgiht be able to go at least a size bigger with an MDF adapter plate.
if it HAS to be 4 inch you could do something like this

Only try to get a better price than that
All I know is the Circuit City computer said my car has 4x6 front 6x9 rear.

I couldn't get the f*cking speaker cover off and it's pouring rain, so I'll rip it off tomorrow and see what kind of customizing options I may have...

Don't bother upgrading if your going to run off HU power...It may sound better but it might not be very loud at all.
There I said it.

Your speakers probably rattle because of the wa they are mounted not the type of speakers they are I would suggest having MDF adapters made or finding someone to make them it's not very tuff if you or someone else has the tools to make an MDF plate to bolt them up to. That will help with the ratteling, a new set, Might just rattle more.
No. It is a fact of life. The speakers I have are 12 years old and are dying. There's nothing else to it, really. The rattling I hear is not the whole **** speaker, it's something inside.

when you make an adapter it spaces the speaker away fro the door 3/4th inches so you can ususaly squeeze a little larger size, not sure on 4x6 to 5.25 but it worked for me to go from 6x9 to 6.5 very easy, it might be a little more work though for you I'm not sure.

If you can fit 5.25's witha little mroe work it will be well worth your efforts, 5.25 components + 50 watt amp.

msg tplaya07 on this forum and see if he can get you a deal on whatever you decide, migt ask bout these also depending on the deal you can get and if you can fit 5.25's int here easily.

or http://www.infinitecaraudio.com/cgi-bin/icastore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=DLSR5A

How can you be sure it's not the mount they are attached to that is ratteling?

Sticking with the DLS heh you could fit these I'm pretty sure

http://www.infinitecaraudio.com/cgi-bin/icastore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=DLS424 and they should be in your price range if you can get the deal on them. Oval speakers tend to not have good SQ.

Because it's a high pitched rattle, not a WAP WAP WAP WAP rattle that you'd get from a mount.

BTW, 250 bucks? I'd rather keep the speakers I already have...

What if I just made some kind of adapter and put round speakers in the existing holes? You know, regular 2-way round speakers? Maybe I can get tricky with it and make some adapters to take it from 4x6 to 5.25.... what do you folks think?

A full set is just out of my league, out of my desires, and going to crush my bank account. It's just not happening.

I would just get those Polk Audio speakers for $50 that I suggested. You will see no difference between a $250 set and a $50 set running off head unit power. Plus, I can obviously see you have no desire to do custom work, so I would just stick to a regular 4x6 and forget about it. Should be better than the stocks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

I wouldn't mind doing some adapters to make 5.25 inchers fit if they would give me a benefit over the 4x6s. Would that be worthwhile?

Nah I was saying get a deal on them not pay that price, you might be suprised with prices if you PM him.

Definately try to make some adapters, maybe you could draw a few up on some nice sturday paper and play around.

shoudl be easy to go from 4x6 to 4 inch which gives you more options at least.

I thought I was trying to go to 5.25 inch for more midbass, not 4 inch?

A 4x6 should have more cone area than a 5.25... which equals more midbass
Then why in the world did someone tell me to build an adapter to go to 4 inch in the 4x6 hole... *lost*

I understand. But I was under the impression I was gaining something from the circle 4 inch speaker than my current 4x6... I kind of like those Infinity's...
http://sonicelectronix.com/item_2615.html
The circle type tend to sound a little better .. more even power response... some distortion sets in due to cone profile and one dimension being of a different sizes -- and uneven stress on the cone -- at high excursion there is higher IMD -- voice coil isn't as well centered in the gap... I am mostly talking about the lower end 'x' size speakers because engineering can overcome on the more expensive stuff but...

Here is an example...

http://sonicelectronix.com/item_2874.html

That should be nicer for SQ

http://sonicelectronix.com/item_2872.html

That would give you stronger bass/midbass if you can't get a sub though...
