Looking at new speakers, but not wanting to go all out.

Going to ditch my stock speakers finally. Not sure exactly what to get though...

I've got a sub in the car running just over 600 RMS, whether it matters or not I don't know.

I don't plan to do kickpods or anything like that... I just want some speakers to throw in the existing mounts that will sound better than what I got.

Bigger kicker is I'm not sure whether I should do 2 ways or 3 ways. Someone was talking to me a while ago before I had planned on getting new speakers and they were telling me when they recommend 2 ways and when they recommend 3 ways. Of course, I had forgotten every word they said... What do you folks recommend? I'm trying to keep the front set of speakers at around 100 shipped or less... Rears I'm not sure if I want to upgrade yet, but I do want to at least have a pair of speakers for the rear in mind in case I want something more than the fronts.

Front = 4x6

Rear = 6x9

I was comparing two speakers at Circuit City a bit ago. One was an Infinity 3 way 4x6, pair was 99 bucks. The other was a Pioneer 2 way 4x6, pair was 49 bucks. Honestly, I couldn't tell much of a difference...

What do you folks suggest?

edit - oh also, I MIGHT end up running a VERY low powered amp to the fronts eventually. It depends how much I like them running off of head unit power. It probably won't take much to impress me, considering my existing speakers have been rattling for the last year.

2 way setups work great, because of their simple design. 99% of 3 way coaxials are gimmicks so dont bother.

If you would be willing to shop online, we could get you a GREAT set of coaxials for $100. But if you can spend a little more money and time on installation, I would suggest a pair of components.

This may sound a little pathetic considering the time I've been in car audio I should know this, but what is included in components? Aren't components essentially your standard speakers, separate tweeters and kicks?

they dont necessarily have to be in kickpanels. A component set includes two tweeters, two midrange/midbass drivers, two crossovers, and install accessories.

Unless this is going to be insanely cheap, easy to install, and not that time consuming, I don't think this will be a viable option.

But, I'm open to all suggestions. What particular component set would you recommend? Any pictures of what's included?

Dont get those pioneers... They sound like major *** in my opinion. And im usually a big pioneer fan. Remember ebay, you can get speakers super-cheap there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

eclipse and boston are probably your best bet. as far as running a low power amp to them, definitly do it, anything is better than deck power.

Heres some pic of my component install. http://www.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=110382&highlight=comp+install

Took about 3 hours per door, but I thought it was worth it. The least I would spend on a pair of components would be about $120 though. But first, PM Squeak9798, I believe he still might have a set of really cheap, but decent components.

EDIT: if you do get an amplifier of at least 50 watts x2, go for a decent component set. But if you really dont want to do the work, some good quality coaxials will do you good.

Don't bother upgrading if your going to run off HU power...It may sound better but it might not be very loud at all.

There I said it.

Your speakers probably rattle because of the wa they are mounted not the type of speakers they are I would suggest having MDF adapters made or finding someone to make them it's not very tuff if you or someone else has the tools to make an MDF plate to bolt them up to. That will help with the ratteling, a new set, Might just rattle more.

Yeah, but they will have to suffice on head unit power temporarily until I can get an amp... but that's okay, life goes on... just gotta have patience.

Is there anything in PARTICULAR you folks would suggest? I mean I'm on ikesound looking at MB Quart and nothing looks practical cause I can't find anything that's 4x6, everything is 5 1/4.

yea 4x6 comps are too small to make midbass, and 5.25 is a bit small also, are you sure they HAVE to be that size? I put 6.5 where I had 6x9's before you mgiht be able to go at least a size bigger with an MDF adapter plate.

if it HAS to be 4 inch you could do something like this

Only try to get a better price than that

I think you could fit a 5.25 inch though with a adapter
