Little help on wiring up second battery.... pics :)

if your amp is capable of drawing more current then 100 amps (im not saying it is or is not ) then why would u fuse at 100? you are fusing to protect the wire. fuse for the wire, you are using 2 gauge i believe you would want 200-250 i cannot remember the fuse size.

so.. my alt is 70 amps. that means a 100 amp fuse between alt and front battery...... does that also mean that small of fuses between the batteries as well?

That would be best. Despite your heavy wire and dual batteries, you still only have a 70 amp electrical system. Higher amps will only be seen when there is a short circuit, like a cable gets cut and grounds to the chassis. Then you could run over 200 amps, for a few seconds, then things start to burn and explode. The smallest fuse possible will give you the most protection.

I suggest you look around at what a HO alternator would cost and how big they are for your size truck. If you can upgrade to a 120 amp for a reasonable amount of money, then I would buy fuses with that future upgrade in mind. So you could put in 120- 150 amp fuses, planing on the future alternator upgrade.

Your going to have serious problems trying to drive a 1200 watt amp from a 70 amp alternator. 1200 watts = 100 amps @ 12 volts. Your already 30 amps shy, not including what your car needs to run.

yeah. the thing is i RARELY ever run my shit full tilt... its usually only about 10% of its potential, i dont really like driving around bumping... but then i like to show off for friends and shit so maybe a song or two near full tilt.... which is why I have 2 big *** batteries...

2 gauge is 200 amp max.

With a 70 amp alternator, he doesn't have 200 amps to give. Smaller fuses would provide more protection. Larger fuses won't give him anything more, but will take longer to pop if there is a problem.

god im so confused now lol

wait wait wait.... so basically this is kinda what i've decided....

since the alt ONLY has 70 to give... that means that it can not possibly under any circumstance give more than 70 amps (generally)... so a 100 amp fuse is right for that..... since the amp can NOT draw more than 70 amps from the alt......

so then between my batteries i'll do :edit:----> 150 amp fuses, since thats more than my amp will even draw..... and between back battery and amp will be a 150 amp fuse, since the amp is fused for 120..... lol? is that right?

Then go for 120- 150 amp fuses, and plan on getting a High Output alternator in the future. The alt is the source of all your power, if it's not big enough it cannot recharge the batteries and you will have serious electrical problems and failures.

i almost bought one, got the batteries first instead. lol

Your just realizing a little late that the weakest link in your system was your small alternator. Another battery doesn't really help you much. It will help some with the occasional peak, but your alt still needs to be able to charge those batteries, power your car and your sound system.

You picked an amplifer much larger than your electrical can provide. Lots of people do that. They spend lots of time and money installing caps and batteries, but really what you need is a High Output alternator, and heavy wires.

It's about he weakest link. Your upgrading the wires, which is great, but now the weakest link is the alternator. Upgrade that and your all good to go.

yeah im sure i can find one thats around 150 amps for not toooo much. then i'll just make sure my fuses are in line and be good to go... no wire upgrades since i'll be okay there... I was actually looking at this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Alternator-Celica-Corolla-Camry-4Runner-Tacoma_W0QQitemZ5757994725QQihZ018QQcategoryZ14932QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

not too sure about seller though i'd have to look into that one.

That's okay, lots of people do that. It's not wasted money. Once you get that HO alt you'll be stylin' with a high output system.

At least you didn't waste money on caps and other useless shit people try to fix their small electrical systems.

People understand they have dollar buget, but they don't realize you also have an electrical budget that you have to work within.

yeah. i've always been weary of too much... shit, even my 1206d dropped voltage to 11.5 so i knew the second i hooked up an amp that ACTUALLY did 1200 rms i would be ****ed if i didnt get my electrical in line very quickly.

That one is only for '95-'99 Tacoma's. You have to be very specific. Lots' of people have bought from irragi. Your buying direct from irragi on ebay. Shoot him an email listing your exact engine, year and model.
