Little help on wiring up second battery.... pics :)

I was going to do it like the first pic but decided to use the second run for + as well. So 2 + runs and then 2 - grounds directly to the frame.
well i have PLENTY of wire.... 10 feet of 1/0 as well.... i was contemplating using the 1/0 for my main run between batteries... would that be a better idea?

holy fuses from everyone batman. fuse between the battery up front and the battery in the back, also fuse from the battery to the nine 1 if you want if it is a super short distance u shouldnt have to worry either (like 3 feet or less) no isolator.

also this is the only fuse i have....

since its just 2 bolts that hold it all together can i just get some bolts from the garage (and washers) and fashion something like this myself with my own fuses i can just go get from advance...?

edit.. yeah. im just gonna get a piece of wood and put some bolts through it and just be sure to cover it up... is that okay?

No, it's not nessesary, but it will save you alot of headache in the future. Especially if one of the batteries is older. It won't charge to as high a voltage, so everytime you turn off the car, the main battery will drain the second battery. In some cases, the two batteries will then take turns draining each other all night, till you wake up to two dead batteries.

An isolator also alllows you to run the system with the engine off and still leave you with a fully charged battery to start the car, because your only running the sound system off the second battery.

2 gauge is good for 200 amps. How big is your alternator? There really is no point in using fuses larger than your alt can power, so it would be safer to fuse the system to your alts maximum output. Assuming it's less than what the new wire is rated for >200 amps.

yeah. the battery is behind my drivers seat, the amp will be on the floor behind the passenger seat (big floor, box overhangs somewhat, so its all hidden) so the amp and back battery will be like 2 feet from each other max.

yeah. im on stock alternator. i remembered someone saying just fuse the big 3 to 200 amps or maybe 250 since its not 1/0 and not an HO alt.

No larger than 200 amp, and smaller would be safer. You cannot use that 300 amp fuse on your system.

Do you know what your alts max amp output is? I would buy fuses just a little higher than the alt. So if your alt puts out 120 amps, then get fuses just a little higher, 125-150 amp fuses.

Personally, I wouldn't make my own fuse holders. But certainly many Bubba's have. Don't be a Bubba'. If you shop around you can find fuse holders for $6 each. Cheap insurance. After reading some stories about people who's cars caught fire, and the insurance refused to pay, because of the wiring they did I would err on the side of good fuses where ever they are needed.

interesting. i'm heading to advance or autozone tomorrow to see if any of them have anything for a decent price, otherwise i'll buy fuse holders off ebay or here.

as for alt size. i still havent figured that out, but i cant imagine it being too big.... stock alt on a 4cyl truck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

so.. my alt is 70 amps. that means a 100 amp fuse between alt and front battery...... does that also mean that small of fuses between the batteries as well?
